Night terrors...or sep anxiety

DS has always been an ok sleeper and usually goes down for the night without much of a fight. Just recently he's been crying as soon as we walk out of the room. Or when he wakes in the middle of the night he will want us in his room and will cry when usually we can give him his paci and he goes back to sleep. H and I were both so exhausted with trying to get him back down so h slept on the floor in his nursery. DS stopped crying but would periodically get up and check to make sure h was still there before he fell back asleep. Has anyone else been through something similar? Is this a phase that last long? Nothing has changed for DS at daycare or at home. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • Oh my goodness. Poor dude. I think I would continue to sleep in his room for a few nights. Buy a brand new special teddy and have you or DH sleep with it on the floor. Each night move closer to the door and once you reach the door then give DS the teddy and make a big about how its his now buy only if he can sleep by him self. A night or two might be spent on the hallway floor so that if DS wakes up you can peek around the corner and reinforce that you are always there and remind him of his lovey.

  • Thanks! We're still going through this and seems to be getting better. He's also teething and getting over a cold so I'll wait until we get over those bumps first. I just wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing sleep regressions.
  • Yesm we went through this for a while. It was pretty difficult but she did eventually get over it.

Thank you! So good to hear since we're still kind of experiencing it but to a lesser degree now. But it's still hard!
  • We are too. She wakes up the second we put her in her crib or wake up screaming for mama and dada. I am starting to think she might be dreaming or having a nightmare? Either way, so exhausted!

  • Yeah... we are kind of going through it too. But we just moved, so I can't really tell if it is just DD adjusting to the new environment.

When I was reading about it I read that it can happen when there is a change in their lives so like moving or starting daycare or change in class at daycare etc.

Yes, DD is still adjusting. She still cries for our neighbor that babysat for us. She sees her now just once a week. It has been tough.
