  How many people is your friend willing to host? 55 seems like a lot for one people to host. Also, did anyone else offer a 2nd shower? If nobody did, I'm not sure how you could split the guest list between two.

  Sorry I should of posted that!  It is my bestfriend that is in charge and then another close friend and then my mom will help! .................My stepmom wants to throw her own but then that will open a can of worms with my mom not being THE ONE in charge of the other shower but yet my stepmom is throwing one!

  June and July-much needed break
  August-Bravelle 75 with IUI#3- BFN
  September-Bravelle injects with IUI #4-BFP!! MC 10/7/12 : ( Sonohysterogram-Normal
  December- Bravelle(3 good follicles & E2 1252) with IUI#5 BFFN (
  July IVF #1- BFP! : )  Beta #1-245, #2- 703, #3- 1655, #4- 3553 YAY!  Praying and Praying this one sticks around!
                    1st U/S scheduled for Aug 23rd!

  Same situation, but 70 are on my list. Husband's parents are both divorced and from HUGE families. Shower would have to be in January so only having one (thanks unpredictable Chicago weather)

  I'd split it up personally for a whole host of reasons - opening presents from 50 people would take a long time, you wouldn't be able to spend much time with each guest, that many people seems a little AWish IMO, etc. I think 10-20 is a good number for a shower, which is about where you'd be at if you split the list and have some declines.

  Accept your step-moms offer.  Give your friends a guest list based a guest list that doesn't include stepmom/ her guests.  And leave it at that.  Dont' make a big deal of it, don't go running to your mom

  If it comes up, be honest with her. "Stepmom wanted to throw a shower for her family".  Period.  But if she gets upset.... that's on her.  This is NOT about your mom and seriously- having a HUGE shower just to appease her is actually unfair to all of thsoe guests who could have been invited to smaller (and possibly more enjoyable) showers.

  I do feel its huge and overwhelming, but expect at least 20 not to show (if not more). Better to have one big one and get it all over with!

  Just a suggestion : perhaps note on the invite to have to shower gifts be "display" so you can hang out with everyone and not waste time unwrapping? I did this for a bridal shower and it worked out amazingly well.

  I had one shower. It was thrown by my friend and my mom wanted to help, but demanded that it was one shower because she never gets to see FI's family. Well, we both have big families. So there ended up being like 70-ish people there. I can probably count on one hand, how many people I actually got to visit with. I didn't really get to eat, as I was going from table to table trying to talk to people. The whole thing was two hours long, and with so many gifts, about 45min of that time was spent with me opening them. Then squeezing in a few games, and potty breaks for me while hugely pregnant, the time went fast. I really wish it was two separate showers, so I was able to relax a little bit, eat, and not feel rushed racing around trying to talk to everyone. My shower was over two years ago, and to this day, I still feel awful about not getting to talk to some people that showed up.
