Success after IF

if you work part time...

how does the days off for vacation, sick, etc work? i know it's without pay, but do they have to let you have time off if requested? we can't go anywhere till summer, but we may want to take off for a week somewhere before january. i go back full time in may. we get 3 weeks, but i'd assume if i'm just starting back full time in may that i wouldn't be eligible for 3 weeks at that point.

i'll of course ask hr about all of this when i get back, but anxious me is curious now.

Re: if you work part time...

  • When I return to work part-time in Jan. I will be working 60% (MWF) so I will earn 60% of my time off for vacation and sick.  That is how we are doing it.

  • I honestly have no idea how it "works" with my company.  It's unpaid but I don't know how much we have "allowed".

I too started out thinking about taking some vacation time at some point.

Now - 6 months later I just hope and pray I don't get fired for all the days I've had to miss for sick kids.

I work 3 days a week and so far I've missed at least one day every single month.  That's a lot!

This month I missed an entire week (3 days) due to a stomach virus at our house.

I'm grateful that my boss seems so understanding but I have no idea how long that can last.

I plan to ask her directly when we work together again in January.  I need to find out!

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • I will be going back part-time (although still working out in my head how I want to do this).  Basically I will be working 50% of my full time hours on an annual basis - meaning 50% of my salary, 50% of vacation, but full sick time still.
  • I work part-time from home, so I really just do whatever I want.  As long as I get work done it doesn't matter when.

When we went out of town for my anniversary, I just told him I would be unable to get the phone.  He was totally fine with that.  I forwarded all calls to his cell instead of mine.

  • I went back to work FT after the baby was born but will be starting a part time job in January!  I will not have any vacation/sick time but as long as I complete my work it doesn't matter which three days a week I work.
