  • There is one on 2nd tri it says, "PSA" or something like that

  • Lol... I kept thinking what to say. All your responses make me chuckle.
  • This is not even something to debate. Get the shot. Flu during pregnancy is very risky.

  • Yeah, I have to say I didn't know there WAS a debate--my doctors all told me to get one and everything else I've read (eg, in my Mayo Clinic pregnancy book, etc.) encouraged getting it.  I read somewhere else also that you pass on (potentially, though one of my doctors said not necessarily) some of that immunity to your baby, too--which would be a boon for my kiddo at least being born in the middle of an East Coast winter.

So I got one.  Not hard to find a free flu shot as a pregnant lady!

  • I am actually completely against the flu shot. Pregnant or not. I am debating with another friend about my reasoning and it never hurts to have more research!

Those of you that do get the shot I highly suggest you do more research. The new stuff coming out is scary and my doctor does not give it in the office anymore compared to two years ago where I felt pressured to get one (though to this day I NEVER have!)

You have got to be fucking kidding me with this.
@golfergirl08 I feel that it must be the day where all the anti-vaxers and (yes this is mean) idiots come out.  :P

  • It's really fucking rude to call someone an idiot because they chose not to get a flu shot. I am going to vaccinate my child. I just don't want the flu shot. I react badly to shots. With the Tdap shot I was in bed for a week with a low grade fever, dizziness and throwing up.

I don't react well to shots either, but I sucked it up and got them to protect my unborn baby. I'm not going to have H and me hide in the house until flu season is over. Which usually isn't until April. There is no way we could afford that, so yes, I sucked it up, had a bad reaction and got my shot.

With the actual flu you may end up dead or worse your child may end up dead who cannot really get vaccinated immediately after birth. Weigh your options...a few weeks of misery or fighting for your life if in case you get the flu? Trust me that very question of doubt against the vaccine as I never get it either but after I looked at the options. I weighed the bigger risks and made my choice.

The flu could kill you or your unborn child. The shot will not.

Yes, it's rude to call someone an idiot. But it's also just stating a fact.

It's also rude to insinuate pregnant mothers who want a healthy pregnancy and baby, and take steps to make that happen, haven't done "research".

I still stand by what I said. I also think that it's wrong to say people haven't done research when they have. I have researched all about vaccines. And my research says to get them and give them to my child.

  • 1. I never told anyone they needed to do more research. I said that after my readings I PERSONALLY did not want to get the flu shot.

    2. I'm really getting hurt at the fact you all make I sound like I am purposely harming my child. I'm sorry, I'm not over here doing drugs or going on roller coasters. I'm just refusing a shot.

    3. The flu has yet to kill me, if it does I guess you can all have the last laugh. But in the mean time I guess you can all get your kicks by posting funny gifs and calling me an idiot right? Enjoy! Glad I can make others laugh at my expense, and here I thought we were all some part of a supportive group.

And yes, I realize we all have different opinions. I just don't feel that belittling and calling someone an idiot is a productive way to get your points across.
  • This is the last thing I'll say to you with complete honesty.

For god sake no one is trying to put you down and god knows we would not want to have any last laughs especially those that mean you are in a hospital suffering. I've been on TB all day and there have been some pretty strong logical arguments put forward on why one should get the vaccine with no valid points to prove otherwise. I think in general people are just frustrated that opinions are placed without strong evidence and going against what almost all medical 'professionals' are asking women to do. Anyways yes it's your choice and you can do what you want but seriously do you really think we are arguing with you to prove your an idiot?

When it's pretty much the same group of people getting into the same discussion for the second time in a day, we're pretty much going to jump straight to "you're an idiot. Just do it." This topic keeps coming up, and the answer will always be the same. Get it. It's dangerous not to. Your immune system is severely compromised when you're pregnant so you're much more susceptible to the flu.

If anyone wants all of the research, they can go back to the other flu shot debacle post from earlier today. The second (or third?) one in a day was bound to get belligerent.

    __________________________-
Since I was the on who said idiot, let me explain. Your immune system is suppressed right now. Also, the flu can be deadly. I know most people don't think that, but complications can arise. Furthermore, complications can arise when you are pregnant, endangering not only your life, but your little one's life. Having the flu sucks major ass. I can't even imagine how hard it would be to have the flue while being pregnant, and knowing that there isn't much medicine you can take to relieve some of your pain and suffering. Also, I couldn't imagine not getting the shot, then getting the flu and having a complication happen to my baby. I just couldn't risk that. If I wasn't pregnant (and didn't work in the schools/ have asthma) I wouldn't get the flu shot. My H has NEVER gotten the flu shot, but he is getting it this year to help keep out baby safe. I'm not saying that you are a bad person, but to me, where I stand, getting the flu shot while pregnant can should be a no brainer.

As for the GIFs (since I posted some too) This is the 2nd or 3rd flu shot discussion in less than 24 hours. COME ON!!! How many more discussions of this are we going to have to have? I don't see why the OP just couldn't look at the first 3 pages and see the discussions. So yes, at this point, it is annoying having to share the same info, over and over and over. And yes, people may be a bit snappier, but that is to be expected after  being asked this so many times in a row.

  • Because everyone of you who are jumping down my throw keep telling me how me and my baby can die from the flu. Do you not think that hurts me deeply? It makes me cry. I'm not an idiot I know what the flu is ! I was just stating my opinion. But reading at least 50 times today that same statement breaks my heart.

Sorry but when you go to your dr and they ask you to get the flu shot as there is a chance it can kill you, you worry about your feelings getting hurt?????? Or the fact that someone is alerting you to a risk?

And then you say we should not be snarky or call you an idiot?? Argh... Please go some place where your coddled for making decisions based on your feelings!!!

We aren't trying to hurt you. We are just telling you the truth. How I see, we are trying to help you, so that you don't end up in a bad situation. I'm not going to ask you about your doctor, because I'm pretty sure it was you in the earlier post who said your MW doesn't recommend the shot, but I do think the decision you are making isn't a smart one.

My Dr. Never pushed the shot on me! She never said I should get it because of this or that. My nurse told me she's never gotten one either and he has 3 healthy kids.

And I never said you wished my baby harm. But the way you women jump down people's throats makes it feel as if you want to prove them wrong.

    Seriously, @winnieella grow up. Please.

Sorry to everyone else if i started taking it To personally. I hope you all can see how overwhelming it can be when a lot of you all at once start saying the same thing. And then being called a name or an irresponsible parent by another really hurts. I love my little girl so much already and to not even be a mom yet and already be judged and called irresponsible really stabs you in the heart.

Edit: the first two paragraphs are supposed to be in a quote box.
  • Well, since I need to grow up, I think you do too. If you have been told 50 some odd times that the flu can be dangerous and are still ignoring the advice, the you need to grow up too.

And I was only trying to lighten the mood. I guess humor and Gifs aren't your thing. That's fine.

We do want to prove you wrong. With facts, information, and science. You've been around long enough to know that we would never wish harm on anyone or their baby.
I know you wouldn't. I'm sorry for that statement, I was way to emotional. I guess being on the other side of the majority opinion, you really do feel attacked even when you know that no one is trying to attack you. But I can see I hurt some feelings so I'm just going to delete my app.

Good luck and best of health to all feb 14 mamas and babies. I will continue to pray for all of you who are going through a rough time.

I do like humor and gifs, but when they are posted so others can laugh at my expense, and you keep making comments like that. It's hurtful.

Please take care, and please reconsider the shot. Also, you don't have to leave the bump. We can have disagreements on here, still be civil and post in other threads.

    Lurking.....
But this is a bit (read A LOT) harsh and too much. You should definitely not say things like "nice knowing you." Like NEVER.
Yeah.. I agree. I honestly think this is someone trying to stir stuff up more. I don't recognize this screen name. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It's tough love! Wouldn't you tell someone you loved or cared about something like "quit smoking, it's going to kill you!" "Put on your seatbelt, you could die!" "Don't get behind that wheel, you've had too much to drink, you are going to kill yourself!" Are you trying to hurt someone when you say that, or knock some sense into them? It's not meant to hurt you, it's a wake up call.

...because you and your baby CAN DIE FROM THE FLU. That scares you?...good, it should scare you! This isn't some joke or conspiracy theory. Your odds of dying from the flu go up FIVE TIMES MORE than for women who are not pregnant.

Sorry (but not sorry) if the truth hurts your feelings.

  • oooook. so my comment is rude, and yours is not? so sensitive here. ive worked in the hospital for the past 10 years, i have seen enough devastation caused by influenza that its time for the public to stop babying themselves about this topic.
People educating her and saying she could be putting herself and her baby at risk is one thing. Breaking out survival of the fittest and saying that she's not fit to survive is another. It's also harsh because the idea behind "survival of the fittest" is that the species is improved by the death of those less fit. That's pretty damn harsh when applied to humans.
