Christmas gift ideas?

I'm going to have some time off to shop soon. What are you getting your little ones? On my mind are bean bag chairs, a mini table and chairs, Thomas train stuff... Any other suggestions? A friend gave them a play kitchen which they like a lot, they love the fake food more! I already got them the FP laugh and learn house door thing (a hit), anything I'm missing? We have the Radio Flyer wagon and Little Tikes cars..

Re: Christmas gift ideas?

  • We're planning to get some duplos. They might still be a tad bit old for her at Christmas, but I think she'll start to enjoy them before her birthday comes around next year.

  • We got the bears with the book, cannot remember the name but they are FP, an activity table, a little people farm house and accessories, and then some odds and ends. Oh and puzzles with big pieces with handles. I think I may fill their stocking with socks! Don't know what else to do because they don't need small toys.

  • A small ball pit was a hit for DD1. Shopping cart DD1 still plays with that.
Kitchen stuff like cups, plates, bowls.

  • Honestly... I'm thinking about power wheels. By the time it warms up in the spring, he'll be almost 2 and ready to ride. Plus I think my 4 y/o step son would love it too.

  • All of these things sound wonderful. We're in an apartment with no space, so I'm thinking:

A kid-sized arm chair - we'll get rid of our old ikea chair to make space for it.
    Xylophone toy
    Maybe a tambourine?
Maybe a small rocking horse? Are they old enough for that?

  • I'm thinking some kind of indoor playgym.  Maybe one of those pop up ones, but he climbs everything so I'm leaning towards a first steps play gym.  Then, when it gets warm out, we can move it outside.

I saw these awesome ride-on toys that have the seat on a ball so the kids can bounce on it. He loves bouncing. Something like this, but not exactly.

We will also get him a bunch of different size and texture balls. He loves balls!

Bean bag is a great gift - Charlotte was given one for her birthday and she loves it.  It's her little reading chair.

I know that interactive toys are not popular here, but we gave Charlotte a Violet dog for her birthday and she really, really likes her Violet.

Mega Bloks are great, too!  And don't forget books!

We went to a toy store the other day and Charlotte was all about these big stuffed animals called Stuffies.  They are kind of like Pound Puppies - they have a zipper pocket in which kids can put stuff.  Charlotte just liked that they were huge and snuggly.
  • Am I the only one contemplating not getting DD a gift from us? :)  We didn't give her one last year, because she gets so much stuff from other people for the holidays.  I don't think she really understands what is from us vs. other family and friends, and we're really trying to cut down on the amount of "stuff" we bring into our house.

  • Also, for those of you contemplating rocking horses/riding toys, my parents gave DD this toy for her birthday, and it's great.  It switches back and forth easily between a rocking toy and a riding toy with wheels.  It's not cheap, but is really high quality and seems like it will last a long time:

  • We love our Wee Sing DVDs. Highly recommend! The only thing I have my eye on for Christmas is the Little People Klip Klop Stable.

Lila has very indulgent grandparents and I am also trying, though without much success, to also reduce stuff so we will probably only buy a Corolle doll.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • Can someone link an inside play gym? That sounds right up DS's alley!

agreed! i would like to just give DS a small gift from us, or else towards an activity, like a family membership to a local nature center or children's museum. i will ask anyone else who inquires to contribute to his college fund (and of course most of them won't listen and we'll still get a bunch of toys anyway ;P ).
