Car Seats. Clek Foonf & Britax

We need to replace our seats due to an accident. I have been very happy with Britax, but the online trend now is towards Radian or Clek Foonf. I don't like our Radian. So, Clek vs. Britax. I know Clek has longer RF, but we turned DS this summer at 2.5 and he was fine in the Britax...just getting hard for him not to see out the front windows like his sister, or see the DVD screen for long trips. We'd have those same issues with any seat. Has anyone actually used both of these brands of car seat? I'd love to hear from someone who has actually worked with both.

What we liked about our Advocate and Boulevard: easy to install, stay rock solid, comfortable for kids, nice pads, nice straps. Feels like a quality product and just works well.
Cons: there wasn't a lot of leg room RF but again, that wasn't really an issue for us. I see online can be outgrown due to height? need to look into that. Also a huge pain to wash and re-assemble when a kid throws up, but I think that's an issue with any seat.

Clek Foonf: sounds good, but I got other seats that were supposed to be great and consistently liked the Britax much better. Are the straps nice? Pads nice? Does it stay installed tightly?

  • I also like Britax and have not seen the clek foonf yet. I follow "the car seat lady" on Facebook, she has a lot of great info on carseat safety. You could try posting on her fb page. She does seem to like the foonf.

  • My kid is not in a convertible yet, but we are researching. It seems like a lot of the concern with the Britax revolves around how quickly they're outgrown heightwise, particularly when it concerns ERF. In this case, you plan to turn your child FF, so ERF concerns shouldn't play into the factor. I think there were some concerns about outgrowing it FF as well, but can't really remember.

The Foonf is supposed to be great - super easy to install, clean, comfy, etc, and gets rave reviews. It's also really expensive and one of the heaviest seats on the market.

  • I love our Foonf. I have a really tall kid (over 37 inches at 19 months) and he is very comfortable rear facing and still has plenty of headroom so he'll be able to stay RF for awhile. It installed easy, the straps are very easy to tighten and the seat material is fantastic-- Crypton fabric is pretty much impossible to mess up since spills roll right off and anything else wipes off (our dog beds are also made from this and we love them for that reason!). As a pro and a con, the seat is built like a tank. It's really heavy so don't plan on moving it but, at the same time, I kind of feel like the seat would fare better than anything in the car.

Previous to the Foonf, we had a Britax Marathon and it was just a bad fit all around. Since the Britax seats tend to be better for smaller kids with their short shells, my tall kid was already quite close to the top by the time he was 10 months old and I had very little hope of keeping him rear facing to two. I also had a huge issue with not being able to get the straps tight enough and it just didn't feel safe to me. I ended up selling it to a friend and it was perfect for his daughter, who was shorter and more compact. We also have a Roundabout in our other car which is a better fit than the Marathon (we're still RF) but we've had several issues with it and have had to have parts sent to us twice to make repairs. Customer service has been easy to deal with but it's been kind of a hassle. I'd buy a Foonf for this car, too but since the only time my son rides in it is to go about 1000 feet down a 25 mph road to daycare, the Roundabout works fine. If we did long trips, I'd definitely ditch this one in favor of a Foonf, too.

  • Thanks! Thanks for the board suggestion! I'm going to try that.
