Will you have me?

Hi ladies,
I think it's time to intro over here. It's (almost) all in my siggy, but me and DH have been married since August 2010 (together for 3 years before that) and have been TTC since April 2012. MMC in November 2012 and natural MC in April 2013. I pushed for testing because I just felt something was wrong. In June I was diagnosed with a balanced translocation of two of my chromosomes. As far as I know, I am the only one in my family that has it, my parents and their siblings had no trouble conceiving. I guess it's pretty unusual for it to start without it being passed down, but I guess it had to start somewhere. I am now going through my first IVF and we will do genetic testing to make sure the embryos we implant are ok. I'm terrified about not having any healthy embryos, but I just have to keep up hope.
I'm sorry we all have to be here.

TTC since April 2012

Just wanted to pop over and give you (((HUGS))). I remember how scary IVF#1 was, and the pins and needles waiting to know how many "good" embryos we had. But just keep chugging along! The likelihood of you having at least some good embryos is really good! I will warn you  that women with BT are sometimes very hard to stimulate so don't be shocked if they put you on higher doses of stims or increase your stims as you go along... its actually pretty typical for a BT cycle.

FYI - My BT was passed down from my father (we did karotypes on my parents). My mother and he had one m/c and then went on to have two perfectly normal healthy pregnancies. So trouble conceiving isn't necessarily a telltale sign of them NOT having a BT. It just sucks all the way around, no matter where it came from. But luckily there is the medical miracle of IVF and I hope and pray its your solution! Wishing you so much luck with IVF #1!!!!

Ugh, I'm so worried about how I'm going to stim. I'm nervous because my first ultrasound after stims begin is 6 days in, and my ER is supposed to be only a few days after that. I worry it will be too late if there isn't enough eggs. He doesn't think I will have any problems stimming and when I mentioned exactly what you said he brushed it off.

Many BT don't have issues stimming! Don't fret too much. And they can extend your stimming period if you're not quite ready so don't assume that ER will be on the date they say right now (mine was 4-5 days later).  If you even get 8 eggs (and that's considered a lower retrieval number) - you should still get two nice chromosomal normal embryos from that and we know your ute is receptive so chances for a BFP are really good. I know its crazy making but you will get through it. Sending so many prayers and (((HUGS))) your way. We're here for you.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm a little terrified so it really means a lot to me :)

I just wanted to say something because our issues are similar and I had your same question.  There have never been any issues in my family either, yet the geneticists still think it was passed down.  They told me that men who carry the BT don't necessarily have the high losses that women do.  If you like numbers, there is a researcher in new York who will take a look at your info and give you your exact probability of success (it changes depending on the chromosomes).  She does it for free, you just have to agree to be included in her research.  If I remember correctly, her name is Dr. Carolyn Trunca, but I can go through my notes to be sure later.

    TTC since May 2011

April 2012 first loss - CP

November 2012 2nd loss - 7 weeks (though I ovulated late so it is likely a CP as well)
Hormone workup and u/s showed everything looked fine

    December 2012 3rd loss - CP
GP tested my hormones and incorrectly diagnosed me with premature ovarian failure
(hormone testing needs to be timed with you cycle)

January 2012 OB/GYN recurrent loss testing
I do not have premature ovarian failure.
    Dx:
MTHFR (take a B-complex daily) - single gene
Factor II (take a baby asprin daily) - single gene

    February 2013 Genetic counseling
    Dx:
MTHFR doesn't matter (take extra B, though)
Factor II is unlikely but possible (later miscarriages)
Balanced Chromosome Translocation bw 5&6 (likely causing everything)
I was given a 49% chance at success due to the chromosome issue

    August 2013 4th loss - CP

    October 2013 5th loss - CP
Prenatal workup found that I had low progesterone
Further testing after loss found that I had low antithrombin

    November 2013 RE workup
RE told me to stop the asprin (not my issue)
RE told me that my low progesterone was due to my body knowing the pregnancy was failing
    Dx:
    Sono-HSG - Arcuate uterus
DH is fine, so far (still waiting on karyotyping for him)

Still need to do my CD3 hormone workup

TL;DR:  5 losses => Balanced translocation, arcuate uterus, factor II, low antithrombin, and MTHFR

Our geneticist contacted her, which is why we are moving forward with IVF. She gave us a 5-10% chance for giving birth to an unbalanced baby and a 45% chance for miscarriage
