@meladoriestar Wow! that's impressive that you read all the books multiple times. I listened to them on my commute to and from work everyday and while I loved them, I am slightly overwhelmed at the thought of rereading or listening to them again before the next book comes out. And I totally agree about the rape, I think she was just trying to make it obvious that it was really dangerous.
@LoHerrim I love the narrator for the Outlander series. I was so glad they kept the same lady for all of the books. That throws me off if I listen to a series and there are different people pronouncing names differently. They did that in House of Night.
@LilNunz1 I liked House of Night, but it is getting too drawn out for me. I think I have read 8 of the books in the series and I was getting so frustrated and felt like they are chasing each other in circles. The last one I read was about a year ago, are the newest books as good as the first ones?

I made the switch. I wasn't going to. But now, I don't have to wait for books. If I'm in the middle of a series, and I finish a book (in this instance, the City of Bones series), I can buy it from Amazon and start immediately.
ANd I don't have to fiddle with a stupid light at night, which is when I primarily read.
That's why I love the kindle. I hated having to wait to get the next book in a series. This convenience has led to many sleepless nights trying to finish awesome books though.

I love my Kindle! Seriously, I read maybe 10 books per year before I got one, then H got me a Kindle for Christmas of 2011, and in 2012 I read 182 books, this year I've read 195 so far. A lot of the books I've read are e-book only too, so I'd have missed out on a lot if I stuck to the library.

I have an app that lets me check library books out on my kindle on my iphone, my stand alone kindle is too old to support the library's system. That has saved me SO much money and there are books I've read or listened to that turned out to be pretty good, but I would not have taken a chance on if I would have had to pay for them.
Anyone with an e-reader should see if their library has free electronic books. You can check them out at any hour from your house once you log in with your library card #. That is how I will be rereading the Hunger Games, once I'm done with the Divergent series.

Any other series anyone would highly recommend? I like a lot of the books people have been mentioning here. A YA series that I loved that I don't think was mentioned was the Graceling books by Kristin Cashore. Anyone else read those? I had low expectations for them and I think that made them even better since I was surprised at how much I liked them.

I will NEVER switch to an e-reader. To me, the smell of a book and the feel of a well worn spine is heaven. Literally, it's just about my favorite thing in the world. (Poor DH hates it - I have around 300-400 and growing, piles if them everywhere, he wants me to get a kindle lol).
I started the Outlander series and loved the first book. For some reason I could not make it through the second book though. If you like paranormal stuff, the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones is really good. Charley is a sarcastic private investigator who also happens to be a grim reaper. The first book of the series is called The First Grave on the Right.
Late to this thread and I've been thinking of starting a book thread, glad it's started! I just got Alliegant today! So excited to read it but I have to finish my re-read of Insurgent first! Someone mentioned series recommendations...I LOVE LOVE A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness!! (Series is called All Souls Trilogy) Third book due out some time next year! It's more in the historical fiction genre, but her storytelling is just amazing. You can see everything she describes! The first book has a page on FB and she had created a 'real time' read with daily photos and songs that were her inspiration for each chapter. If you really get into the book especially after re-reads the parallels, connections, historical details, and nods to some other books are just crazy! Okay enough of that rant...it's just so good! I'm always on the lookout for new series, haven't read Outlander, but it certainly appears to be a fav for a lot of you! It's on my list once I finish Alliegant! Thanks!
She is hilarious. No nonsense kinda gal. I love her. I see you also have some Tolkien there too? Sweet! Just finished The Hobbit and waiting for TLoTR books from my friend. I love seeing well worn book bindings!

I feel like such a failed book nerd.
I loove my nook. Main reasons: no light AND when your laying down reading you don't have to roll from side to side (i hate lying on my back.)

Looking forward to reading Alliegant soon, though I have a book club pick I should get into before November.
I wonder if any of you ladies have checked out Vaginal Fantasy on GoodReads / YouTube. It's Felicia Day's romance novel book club that's been going for over a year. They tend towards steamier stuff than Alliegant, but Outlander was a pick a few months ago.
I love my Kindle. We have about 1,000 books in the house, and I love my library shelves, but I've found I don't need a physical copy for all books. Plus, I feel better about reading my smuttier books in public without flashing the cover art at everyone.

I have this on my list of books to read once the last book comes out, so that way I can plow through the entire series without having to wait years to read the book that comes next!

The second outlander book is the worst in my opinion (and many agree with me on this). Push yourself to finish it because the rest of the series is so worth it!
While I didn't hate the second book, I agree that it was the most different from all of the other books in the series. If you don't know what is coming I could see how someone might not be excited to keep reading. Just wait til the end though, or the beginning of the next book? I can't remember. It really picks up and will totally suck you in!

I'm halfway through Allegiant, and it's killing me that I have to be at work instead of just laying in bed reading - so far, so good.
The Discovery of Witches was recommended to me, so I'll likely pick that up at some point.
I'm currently listening to an Outlander podcast, and they're doing a weekly reading/bookclub kind of thing to prepare for the show when it starts in April/May. Until then, I'm stalking for photos of the show as they shoot it
I just got outlander on audible, woot, am so excited, sounds like my drive to and from work just got alot sexier.

This is a huge plus too! Especially since even some of my 'tame' books have really raunchy looking covers (not to mention my actual smut books too), I'm glad I don't have to flash that shit around in public.
