Weird thoughts. Is this normal?

So this is a weird confession but im starting to think i need anti anxiety meds for sleep only. Every damn night I wake up in the middle of the night because I hear a noise. Then I swear someone is in the house. Clearly I'm losing my mind. I feel like I cant trust my H to hear if someone comes in so im like hyper alert and I cant turn it off. Then after I tell myself to calm down and go back to sleep it takes over an hour to get back to sleep.

I dont watch anything scary because I know it will effect me so wth? How do I fix it? Anyone else experience this? And I was never like this before the baby. I slept like a log and even through earthquakes.

Re: Weird thoughts. Is this normal?

  • I don't know if it's normal, but it's definitely not good if its disrupting your sleep! Do you have a security system installed in your home?  I know that helps me feel safe at night.  We had extra sensors installed once we had the babies for an extra sense of security as well. We can access it from our phones in case it doesn't go off, we can hit the panic alarm from where ever we are.  It's an added cost but worth it for peace of mind!

  • But I have no reason to worry. Logic tells me people arent going to break in when someone is home. And there is a huge manly plumber van in the driveway so I know that also lessens the chances I feel like its me. Like I cant just turn my mind off.

  • Yes @mrsKberlo thats it. So maybe its just a normal part of motherhood? Ugh. Sucks. It happens to me multiple times a week. Well at the very least im not alone I guess.

  • Yep, I think it's definitely a motherhood thing. I feel like I am always on hyper alert at night ever since I've had Rowan and when something loud wakes me up sometimes it gets my heart racing and then it's harder to get back to sleep. I've started using earplugs at night and it's been helping a lot and I can still hear when Rowan cries. I wonder if a sleep aid would help you? My sister in law takes melatonin which is a natural supplement and she swearsy by it, and my dad's doctor recently suggested it for him. Wonder if it will help with deeper sleep our just getting TO sleep? I'm thinking of looking into it myself.

  • Ooh I might try earplugs. Emery is super loud when she wakes up so it would be impossible to miss. Thanks!

  • I deal with the same thing at least once a week or so. Once I get the noise and worrying about what it could be out of my head, I usually start thinking about something else and then it's an hour long saga of thoughts I can't turn off even though I'm so tired.

  • Just saw this and had to let you know that I too find myself awake in the middle of the night, but not as often. I think we kick into mommy mode, especially if we have deep sleeping H's.
