OK so this was a bridal shower, not a baby shower, but I feel the need to post this because I find it so unbelievable. The shower took place last night and I was unable to go, however my MIL and SIL attended. Let me start by saying the invites had 6 different registries listed and under this it read: please do not gift the bride unless it is a registry item. Also I posted a few weeks ago a poem that was on the invite that said it was a "display shower" and that the bride wouldn't be opening her gifts so that she had more time to visit and dine. It said the gift should be wrapped with ribbon or twine in the poem. So although I was not able to attend I sent a gift along with MIL and SIL and wrapped some curling ribbon around it with a bow and tag on top with no paper. So last night SIL texted me that the person setting up the gift table ripped off my ribbon and when SIL said "oh there's a tag on that so you know who it's from" the girl snapped back that the gift was not supposed to be "wrapped" and obviously she couldn't follow simple instructions! Also, my MIL offered to bring a dessert and she was told she HAD to bake a cake because there were already cupcakes and cookies, and it HAD to fit into the Wizard of Oz theme. The grand finale is that I got another text from SIL at the end of the night saying that the guests were asked to do labor for the wedding at the shower! She said every guest (and there were at least 50) was instructed to put together 5 pinwheels for the wedding decorations. I just could not believe it. Dictating the gift has to be a registry item, not having the time or courtesy to unwrap gifts, getting my bow and tag torn off my gift, telling guests that any food contributions had to fit the theme, AND making the guests do hard labor for the wedding? Is it just me or does this go down in history as the rudest, tackiest shower ever? They are lucky I was not not there or I would have flipped my SH*T!!!

I dunno, I usually always give a gift if I was invited and can't go, at least a little something. She had a relatively inexpensive Corningware set on her Target registry so I got that. What is funny is that they tried to disguise the pinwheel making as a "shower activity" because there were no games. But SIL said everyone saw right through it and were rolling their eyes when they were told they had to make the pinwheels. And trust me if I were there, they would have gotten an earfull...I am usually one to keep my mouth shut but this shower would have infuriated me.
And @Meery82, please don't ever stop posting. I get such a kick out of the apple butter pic in your siggy. My co-worker actually screamed laughing when I showed it to her.
