Opinion: Hayden

So my DH really wants Hayden as a name for a boy. Since we don't know gender yet, we agreed that I can choose girl name and he can choose boy name. But do you ladies think of a girl when you hear it? When I told a friend that if it's a boy, we will name him Hayden, she told me, "I hate that for a boy name. It's definitely a girl name." I have really good friends huh? Anyways, now that's all I think about. Just wanting some thoughts and opinions

That's actually on our "possibility" list for a boy. Yea we have lists because my SO and I have a very hard time coming up with names together lol

I think more of a boy, but maybe because I know a little boy with that name! I don't mind it but keep in mind that all those -Aden names are insanely popular, so while he might be the only Hayden in his class, there might also be jayden, Aden, kaden etc!

I actually prefer Hazen - I knew two growing up and I think it is such a nice name!

Honestly, I'm not nuts about it in general - for a boy or girl. It's part of that Jaden, Aiden, Cayden, etc trend that I think is going to be very dated in a decade or so.

@deidremaria same. That's why we went ahead and agreed to do it this way! He is much more difficult than I thought he would be. He always knocks down my suggestions and then has joke suggestions that drive me nuts - like "what about Larry?" (He worships Larry David). I want to shake him! So I was proud of him when he finally came up with Hayden but now I just think about the actress.

I think of it as a boy name... I've met several boys named Hayden, and never any girls. That said, I don't love the name. It came along a few years ago with the Jaydens and Kaydens, etc, and I think it's overused at this point. Plus unisex names aren't my thing.

Its annoying huh. I don't think itll be a good idea for us to do what you guys are doing because he hates all the names I like and I hate all his names. I would hate for us to have a kid with a name that one of us loves and the other one hates. Im sure we'll come up with something

I think it's gender neutral. Actually I think it's a boy name that got hijacked and is now gender neutral.

My DH honestly likes the name Lawrence "Larry". Um, no.

I think Hayden is definitely a boy name. That being said, I don't prefer it because it follows the uber popular
-aden trend.

Fun fact:I subconsciously changed our daughters name the moment I had her. She was put directly on my chest and I looked down and said HI CADENCE GOLDIE! .....which was not the decided name of Charlytte Marie...so don't take it too seriously.

She even still has a baby blanket that says Charlotte Marie. Hehe boy I'm happy I changed it though.

I love the name! I also think it was originally a boy's name. Hayden Christensen is the guy who played Aniken in the new starwars films.

My dad and my cousin are Haydn... Spelled the old 'real' British way. With the 'en' I find it more girly.

I think it's a boy name that people have adapted as a girl name. But I know a little guy named Hayden, so I think boy.

Jayden is much more ambiguous, IMO.

I think girl when I hear it but I agree it is technically a boy name. It's really not my style and I do think it's part of the -aden trend.

The only reason I'm not a fan is because I know 2 people with babies under 6 months who named their son that. But it would be different on a girl.

Hayden Panettiere is who I always think of so I relate it to a girls name but it is traditionally a boys name. My DH likes it for a girl but I don't love the name either way. I did work with someone who named her son Hayden so it does go either way. I tend to like those names more for girls though if they're being used as girls names too.

I actually think of it as a boy. We are in the same boat. My husband is picking boys name and he likes Taylor. I like it a lot except I keep thinking of Taylor Swift. Lol

I teach in a K-6 elementary school, and there are several boys named Haden and Hayden... but I've yet to see a girl named Hayden come through... I do think it could go either way though, I'm a fan of boys names for girls.
