I need a my wisdom teeth pulled.

edited October 2013 in August 2011 Moms
But the oral surgeon quoted me at $300 out of pocket (after insurance), to be paid in full before the procedure.

Guess I'll be getting an emergency root canal in a few weeks because it appears I can't afford preventative measures.

ETA:  One wisdom tooth is not long for this world.  It's getting to be painful.  The rest of them are slowly following suit.  They're impacted so I can't clean them properly.  This.  Sucks.

Ugh that blows.  But won't an emergency root canal cost just as much?  DH's root canal was $1500 a few months ago.

That totally blows.  I had 4 badly impacted ones and had to get them all out in college.  It's not fun stuff.
Yeah, it sucks.  The thing is, with an emergency root canal it's "pull now, pay later."  It's a sad fact, but I'll have to wait until I'm in dire need so they'll be forced to pull them, then I'll have to foot the (much larger) bill over time.  C'est la vie for poor people like me.

I really wish schooling had paid off.  I really, really do.

  • That sucks.  Agree with Crash, any way to scrape up the $300 now?  I know how painful impacted wisdom teeth are!

Do you have any local FB swap sites?  I know people who sell stuff on our local FB group and they can easily pull in $100 in a week with a few bulk sales.  They'll pull together a lot of used kids clothes in the sames size, post a single pic of maybe 20 separate pieces, and easily sell it for $25.  And meeting up to swap means you don't have to deal with any shipping/pay pal hassle that you might have on craiglist or ebay.

  • I'm having the hardest time quoting for some reason.  Dang, Bump!  So I'm just tagging.

@CrashIntoMe1, I started tearing apart our storage closet and the girls' room looking for things to get rid of at about midnight last night.  I'm hoping I can get something decent for what we've got here.  We have a hide-a-bed chair we never use, a toaster oven, lots of kid's clothes...I'm at least going to try!

Also, I sincerely appreciate all your advice and stuff, I really want you to know.  I've been struggling for so long, I can be a bit ornery and give in to the negativity before I've really even thought of all my options so I'm really glad when someone comes along and tells me to snap out of it and points out the obvious.  Thank you!

P.S. - I say "just sayin'" all the time, lol.

  • Many dentists take payments. Can you speak with the office manager?

I may just have to because I'm not sure that what I've got here is going to cover the whole $300.  If they won't I'll just keep sniffing around for a dentist who will.  My mouth hurts, yo.

  • Don't giv eup because lots of qualified, reputable dentists take payments. I have gone to them myself. In fact, I think it is odd this dentist doesn't and it would turn me off to them. Some insurance carriers require dentists to accept payments, even, so why are these people so shady?
