Switching bc... Ring to pill. Nervous.

I got mirena after I got the all clear. Loved it for the most part but was having some issues after a few months so had it removed. Now using the nuva ring. It's $50 for 1 month or $100 for 3... Well we aren't in the best financial spot right now and cutting everything we can. [wishing I kept mirena... Darn it, issues or not. They weren't that bad] but I'm terrified that the pill I'll forget or something and I'll end up pregnant. We also use condoms 95% of the time but he ALWAYS also pulls out. Which I know isn't totally full proof. But I figure with everything else it's better than nothing? Ugh. I just don't know what to do. Can't afford another baby. Can't afford the method of bc I choose. I also have bad migraines so I have to be careful which pill I take. Anyone LOVE their pill?

  • I was on ortho tri cycles for years and years. Never noticed any side effects. Sometimes I would forget and then take 2 the next day.
If you are worried about it just make sure to use condoms especially when you are most likely to get pregnant.

  • You might feel more confident on the pill if you're tracking your cycles. Use an app like Fertility Friend to help you so you can avoid that window of fertility each month. Set an alarm on your phone to remind you to take your pill every day and like SJVA said, you can take 2 the next day if you forget.

Definitely condoms and him pulling out will add extra insurance!

The only pill I liked was the mini pill (progesterone only) but there's a much higher rate of pregnancy with it. I felt good about using it though because we also used condoms.

You don't ovulate on the combo pill, so you can't track your cycles. I'm on the mini pill now because I'm nursing, but I'll go back on the combo pill when I'm done. The combo pill is more effective. That plus condoms and you should be good. BCP is free.

That's true. I'm thinking of the mini pill for tracking ovulation, if she can't use the combo pill because of side effects.
