STM: How long where you pushing?

So the other tread had me thinking...

How long where you pushing before baby came?
Where you on Epidural or Med-free?
Where you Induced?
Total Labor Time?

I am curious if there is a link....

I was med-free up to 8cm... and pushed for only 15 minutes total of 19 hours in labor. They turned down my epidural when I started pushing. I wasn't induced.

Re: STM: How long where you pushing?

  • I had an epidural with pitocin after over 24 hours of labor (34 total). I never pressed the button for more of the epidural so I could feel stuff down there and only pushed for about an hour.

  • It was all such a blur.....I was semi-med free, I had the gas which helped me get to about 7. I couldn't get an epi because there was no anesthesiologist. Apparently there were a few emerg c-sections that night, which meant they couldn't squeeze me in. I ended up pushing for about 45 mins to an hour? That's what my mom and hubs told me. Total labour time was about 9 hrs start to finish. Oh and I was not induced :)

I thought my 34 hours were bad. You are a saint.

  • DD (baby #1):  Wasn't induced, about 12 hours of "real" labor, though I was having contractions for 24, totally med free, pushed for 30 minutes.

DS (baby #2):  Wasn't induced, about 5 hours of "real" labor, contractions for about 16 hours, totally med free but had a posterior baby and pushed for 2.5 hours.

Give me 30 minutes of pushing any day, 2.5 hours sucked!

  • gosh I'll try to remember:

1st. pushed for three hours, ugh, had epidural once I was at 7 and labored for a few more hours after that then the pushing, total labor about 14 hours

2nd beautiful 8hr labor, epidural at 8, pushed for ?30minutes

3rd awful, back labor, breach baby, labored for 24+hrs, epidural at 8ish b/c he was breach, pushed three times, the Dr gave me 3 pushes and that's what it took

4th beautiful 8hr labor, no epidural, didn't push... my body contracted and he was delivered.

  • I pushed about 10 times and was med-free, was induced and total labor was about 4 hours.  Pregnancy is hard but all 4 of my past deliveries were about the same, pretty easy, hoping # 5 is just as easy! Plus getting in the big tub helped advance me quickly and took a bit a pressure off...they didn't allow delivery in the water, but just the bit in there helped a lot.

This was one of the main reason I caved... :/ The epidural allowed me to relax so DS could turn in the correct position.

  • Dd1 10 hours of labor before epi then another 7 .5 I pushed twice.
Dd2 about the same but epi wore off, my body began pushing as they were trying to redo my epi. All natural birth with a needle in my back and laying on the blood pressure cuff as it was going off. I only voluntarily pushed once.

How long where you pushing before baby came?  11 minutes (9 pushes total)

Where you on Epidural or Med-free? Epidural at 7cm but could feel pressure and move my legs

Where you Induced? No. I went into labor at 6+ cm and did not need any pitocin

    Total Labor Time? 9 hours

DD1 - Pushed just under 20 minutes. Epidural for horrible back labor due to posterior baby, but it was turned off when I hit 8-9cm, so I has some feeling back but not all. Induced due to insulin-dependent GD. Total labor 38hrs.

DD2 - Pushed less than 5 minutes. Epidural for same reason as #1, failed after a few hours, so the last 5 or so hours were med-free. Induced again due to insulin-dependent GD. Total labor 22hrs.

Since I made it through the roughest parts of labor with DD2 without any pain relief, I'm going to attempt to go without an epidural for #3. However, I reserve the right to change my mind if this kid is posterior like both of it's sisters.

  • 32 hrs of labor, pushed for 2 hrs. I had pitocin at around hour 12, because my labor stalled and my water had already broke. No epidural.

12 hours of Pitocin after natural labor wasn't moving fast enough, 32 hours total (including early labor). Epidural at 6 cm. Almost 2 hours of pushing, though 40 minutes of that was waiting to push while the doctor took his time showing up....

  • I wasn't induced. Epidural when I was at 9cm.

I was in active labour for about 12 hours and pushed for about 20 mins (5 contractions). Total labour about 21 hours.

  • About 26 hours of labor, epidural around 5 cm and pushed about 30 minutes. I was really numb and could tell I was pushing but I didn't feel much. That was totally fine by me.
Due 3.27.14 (lame because I cannot figure out how to save a fun ticker.....)
  • I pushed for 30 minutes, had an epidural at about 4cm, was in labor a total of 20 hours and I wasn't induced.

I pushed for 10 minutes. I had an epidural at an 8 and was not induced. I was in labor for 5 hours! Im scared because I know this one won't be as quick. .
  • 30+ hours of labor.. I did get an epidural.  Pushed for... what I think was two hours, but my chart apparently said 4 hours!!!!!!!!! WHAT.   But that may be from the time I started pushing, to the time I got cesarian. My pelvis couldn't accomodate him (he was also 'sunny side up') -

  • How long where you pushing before baby came? Just shy of 3 hours!

  • Induced, 19 hours of labor and pushed for almost an hour, had an epi

  • Induced just shy of 42 weeks. 26 hours of labor, med-free- not by choice but by inability to receive an epidural and only pushed for 3 minutes. Dd was literally falling out of me as the nurse screamed for me to not push and for the doctor to come in.....it was quite an experience, lol.
  • How long where you pushing before baby came? 50 minutes

Where you on Epidural or Med-free? both...lol! I had the epi, but they didn't change the bag because I was "about to push", but i didn't pushed for hours after that and it ran out...about 2 hours before pushing I could feel everything again...including the episiotomy.

Where you Induced? no. I was supposed to due to GD, but I went into labor on my own 3 hours before my appointment

    Total Labor Time? 22 hours

This was one of the main reason I caved... :/ The epidural allowed me to relax so DS could turn in the correct position.
I had an anterior placenta with DS, which I guess can make it more likely to have a posterior baby...my midwife also said that if your pelvis is wide enough sometimes babies just won't turn because they can get through - damn my child bearing pelvis!  If I hadn't been at home, I might have asked for an epi...but it just wasn't an option!

She did also tell me that her second baby was posterior and all the rest weren't (I think she has four total) so that makes me feel a bit better.  DD's birth was so much easier by comparison!

  • DS #1 was a 3 day induction and pain med free pushed for I think about 30min. DS#2 all med free and didn't push when my water broke he just came out! I went from 2 cm to baby in 13 minutes! I am hoping that #3 is that easy!
  • I was in labor for 20 hours, and went into labor on my own.  I got an epidural after 14 hours, and pushed for 2 hours.

  • I went into the hospital at 7pm to be induced; however, they wanted to help me efface more over night before they induced me. They gave me a cervidil and a shot in my hip to make me sleep (oww)! I went into labor about 6am without any medicine, I woke up at about 7am with my contractions on top of eachother. I moved quickly and at 7cm they warned me if I wanted an epi it would need to be now, so I got the epi around 7cm-8cm. They then gave me pitocin so I wouldn't slow down too much and said it would probably take another hour or so.... 15 minutes later the nurse checked me and I was at 10 cm (didn't need the pitocin lol) the doc came in and I pushed for a little over 10 mins. Was in labor for 5 hours, but only conscious for 4 of them!
  • Went into labor on my own. Was in active labor for 12 hours. Pushed for 3 contractions-it was maybe 5 minutes. I had a med-free birth.
  • Total Labor - 15 hours.
    Pushing - 15 minutes maybe?
Was on epi for about six hours

  • Totally natural birth...had no time for any meds she came so fast!! Pushed for 20 minutes abd was only at the hospital for exactly 1 hour from the minute I arrived until she was here!:) hoping for a quick delivery again with baby number 2!!
  • I was in labor for 4 hours and pushed for 40 minutes. All med free.

  • Water broke on its own, no meds, 45 minutes of pushing

  • Med free. It was mostly a blur (a horrible painful blur) but about 20-30 minutes pushing. 5 to 6 hours from very first little contraction.

  • How long where you pushing before baby came? 49 minutes. Felt like 20.
Where you on Epidural or Med-free? Med-free.
    Where you Induced?  No.
Total Labor Time? 40 hours. 39.5 if you want to be really specific.

  • I was induced at 41 weeks. I was in labor for 16 hours but the first 8 hours were not very productive so they attached a lead to DS's head to help the water break slowly (he didn't want to drop). Once the water broke, then labor pain really started. I lasted a couple of hours, then had an epi because I wasn't recovering well between contractions. I pushed for an hour or so.

  • So the other tread had me thinking...

    Pushed for 2 hours

    Epidural

    Induced

Total labor time was 23 hours

My water broke and I was Strep B positive so I needed to be put on antibiotics almost right away. It took so long to get her out because she was a monster at 9 pounds, 9 ounces. I'm hoping the next one is a normal sized baby.
