We saw the heartbeat yesterday, so I figure it's safe to tell her. Plus I wanted to ask for some extra snack breaks during parent-teacher conference night, because last year I had 6 solid hours of conferences scheduled with no break.
I was SOOO nervous to tell her. We haven't even told our parents yet, so I think this is the first time I've actually said the words "I'm pregnant." I was so nervous I was shaking, and I'm pretty sure she thought I was about to quit or give her really bad news. I don't know why I was so nervous. I work at a Catholic high school, so of course a pregnancy is always a blessing, and I know that nobody would ever do or say anything to suggest it was an inconvenience at all.
Luckily, she was very accommodating, and she said if I'm feeling crappy on the night of PT conferences we'll just put a sign up that says my conferences are cancelled and I'll just have to follow up with all of those parents afterward. I hope that doesn't happen, but it's a relief to know it's an option if it comes down to it! She also said since my due date is in late May, I can just give my final exams early and wrap up the year before I go on maternity leave, which is awesome! It's such a relief to have a plan!
So starting tomorrow I can start telling other people. Standard protocol in our school is to send out a mass email to announce to everyone. I'm not sure I'm ready for the flood of interest that will happen if I do that. I really don't like to be the center of attention. Plus I'm fairly new (this is my 2nd year) and there are a lot of people I don't even know yet. But I'm afraid some people will be offended if they hear about it "through the grapevine" instead of from me.
