"Twin Speak"

Hello ladies!

 

I'm still new to all of this ... this is my first pregnancy and we are expecting twins.

I wanted to know if any of your multiples had a "secret language" either as toddlers where you would swear they knew they were communicating with each other before words, or if as young children they spoke in code with each other or something.  The idea fascinates me and I was wondering how common it is to actually happen!

Mary (33) and Michael (33)

Diagnosed with PCOS in 2002, Married 4/10/10     TTC #1 June 2011; LAP and tubes flushed in Dec

2012: 6 Clomid Cycles, all BFN;    RE consult Nov 2012: SIS (all clear)

2013: 3 Femara Cycles with IUI, all BFN      August 2013: Follistim/Ovidrel = 3 Follies, IUI on 8/29.

BFP!!!!! 1st Beta = 204 on 9/12/13 2nd Beta = 774 on 9/15/13!!

First U/S 10/1/13 - It's TWINS!!!!

    Mine are only 9 months but they babble and laugh directly at each other all the time now and if I didn't know better I would swear they were having a conversation.  It's very cute!  :)

    My guys are almost 3- and no there is no "special language".  In fact my one has a speech delay, I asked the speech therapist- who has a ton of experience with twins- she says that more likely the "own language" is a result of them reinforcing the wrong words and pronunciations- so nothing too "special"

    As for code languages, my sister- who was 4 years younger- and I used a made up language when we were 6-12 to prevent our parents from knowing what we were talking about, so it is not a twin thing- probably more a sibling thing.

    Mine totally do, and it consists exclusively of the scream of outrage as one yanks the toy away from the other ;)
    Otherwise, no, babies babble together but I think they would need to know enough language to actually codify it. And all kids have specific words they use in place of others, which is cute anyhow (my eldest called acorns "pumbles" for instance).

    At 12 months my boys definitely communicate with each other, but not with words or even babbling. So far just with squeals and with physical acts, like chasing each other or popping out to play peek-a-boo. It is ADORABLE.

    At 9 months mine definitely interact with each other, but I wouldn't go as far as saying they have their own "language"....mostly they communicate w/ smiles, looks, grunts, etc. They love to blow raspberries at each other....does that count? ;)

    They "talk" to each other and then you can see they decide what to do and then go together and do it.

    Too many YouTube videos! Haha
    My girls, at 3 mos, will smile and baby talk to anyone who's close. And that usually means each other. It's super cute, but I think more developmental than "twin-speak".
