Can we talk poop for a minute?

We haven't discussed poop since the newborn days, but I find myself wondering, what should T's poop consistency ideally be now that he eats like a normal person?  On days when I notice they are a little harder, I give him more raisins, but then I wonder if it should be harder and not pasty anymore. I don't know. And I don't really want to ask Dr. Google.

  • I have been wondering the same thing.  When I did a Google search the best guideline I could find is if you can 'roll it' they are constipated.

DD"s are not logs but I do not know if that is because half the time she is running around not letting me change her and sitting in it.

  • according to an article by a pediatric urologist: toddler poops should be mushy, "like mashed sweet potatoes or hummus."

"If your child's poops are formed, like logs or pebbles, your child is constipated"

DS's are usually a mushy/pasty blob as described above. and oh god, the smell.
  • I've been wondering this too! @victoriafee, thanks for that info. that's very helpful... DS has mushy poops just like hummus! Ha.

  • Same here - mushy poops, sometimes it is a hard ball though.  Then I just give him more fruit!

Raisins?  I haven't given DS raisins yet, too chewy?

And I was going to make hummus for book club next week....not sure if I can after that mental picture!

  • I would compare Bs poops to refried black beans. The smell is like a punch to the face.

  • Alright now hummus and refried beans are off my list for the next month!

@victoriafree thanks for posting that.  I was starting to think something was up with DD.  The smell has been horrendous lately.
