What are some rude things people have said to you while you were out and about with LO?

I've gotten asked about ds's ethnicity more than a few times... People always look at me and then at him, get a confused look and then ask some sort of question about his race... Its more weird than anything, my first question when seeing a random baby wouldn't be about their race!? (I'm white, DH is Mexican - lol incase you were wondering lol) I have also gotten a million strangers that think it's ok to come over and pet my baby's head! I get it, he has a lot of hair!
People are out of line to do this in public, but if we were friends, I would beg to hold your gorgeous baby and stroke his hair. You seriously have the best looking baby boy.

That is so sweet of you! Thank you!

  • Lo has a hemangioma on his eye...every.single.stranger says " whaaaat haaappened to his eyeeeee????"  i want to throat punch them all
  • Somebody at my job rubbed the top of Lily's head and said, "Yep, it's still soft."  I'm assuming that they were talking about her hair.

I also get told that I look too young to have a kid, which is a little weird to me because there are 14 year olds having kids.  I just look at them and say, "I'm 27, but thanks!"

People always call Nora a "he". Partly because she's so chunky. I don't really care. I'm not putting her in pink or floral every damn day.

  • All the age comments are very strange. I'm 19, so I am a young mom. Nobody has ever made that comment before. In fact people have asked if she is my younger sister's when she is holding her and she is 17. I guess where I live people just don't judge young parents.

That's great that you don't receive any of it! It surprised me because I'm from Seattle and most people here just mind their business- not other people's.

  • My DH and I have been married for 19 years. We were never on the parent track. But things happen and we got Nancy. The only rude comment I got was someone asking what type of fertility we used to get pregnant. I'm was like--none thank you. It is weird that they thought because we waited we were actively seeking medical intervention. I just smile and say "if you don't do something to prevent it....well you get a beautiful baby don't you?"

  • I look young especially before I got a mom haircut a couple weeks ago (which I HATE BTW), so I have gotten a couple of the "young" comments.  Actually, when I went to get my BC at the pharmacy, they asked for my insurance card, so I handed it over.  She asked who I got my insurance through and I said "Aetna" and she said "Oh are you on your dad's plan"... um no.  That is my husband.   MInd you I was holding B the entire time.

And I get a LOT of strange looks when I have B in the ergo.

  • My son is pretty dark like my husband who is African American. When I was shopping a lady came up to me and told me that he was adorable. Then she asked, "Is he adopted?" I looked at her and said, "No my son is not adopted." Then she acted all embarrassed and tried to come back with a compliment on how she only thought that because I didn't look like I had just had a baby. Riiiiighht!

I've gotten a ton of comments about wearing the baby in various wraps and the Ergo, and most of them are positive. This weekend a crazy old bat asked if I had gotten the wrap from black women in Africa, and she had the worst tone when she said it. I also had one woman tell me that I was spoiling the baby by wearing it. One of my relatives hates it, and implied that it made us look "poor". It was something along the lines of, "People are going to think you can't even afford a stroller for that baby."

I would give a huge eyeroll to your relative--the Ergo costs more than some strollers!!!
  • @adri823 walmart sells booze! Life would be easier in Canada if walmart sold booze.

Not all states in the US sell liquor at places like Walmart and the grocery store. The state I live in, as well as the surrounding states, all have much tougher liquor laws. Around here, liquor is only allowed to be sold in a liquor store.

I didn't read thru the whole thread so not sure if this was said already but does your relative realize how expensive wraps are? They're not that cheap!

I love to wear my baby when I can. There is something so fulfilling in having a sweet cuddly baby that close to you. It also makes grocery shopping a breeze. :) I get weird stares but I live in the boonies.

  • When I was grocery shopping and checking out. The cashier (an older lady) kept trying to see LO in the car seat. So when she saw LO ... She looked at me and then looked at LO and said ohh he is so cute he must be a joy to babysit. I'm assuming she gave me a look bc I'm Puerto Rican and have fairly dark skin and LO is half Italian and looks white I said I'm not babysitting he's my son. Then she said oh well being a teenage mom must be hard I just gave her a dirty look and said I have good genes I may look very young but I'm 30 ... Have a great day! As I grabbed my receipt from her! I really wanted to say u old hag lol !!
  • Haha @violet1183 Bradley is such a 90s name :) your aunt has excellent taste! You should see if JacKKKKson is in the book and frame that page and toss the rest of the book :)

  • We went out for breakfast with some friends this morning and Natali was doing great! She was all smiles and giggles and happily chatting away. She wasnt even being loud as I could barely hear her and she was right beside me. Well, apparently the older couples a few tables over thought she was being terrible. They kept staring and giving me dirty looks and making rude comments. So, while one was turned around, giving me a nasty look, I stared them down and returned the look. Then I very loudly remarked how good N and how cute her happy chatting was :)
