What does A12 think of this?

I saw this story on the new this morning. I think its all about publicity ad promoting her book and websites.  I'm surprised that she could be so judgmental especially after dealing with an eating disorder herself.

Re: What does A12 think of this?

  • I saw this on the Today show. I think she knew the slogan would get attention. Honestly, I think she looks great and I tend to agree with the thought that anyone can look pretty great, maybe not like her, with a strict diet and exercise plan (barring medical issues, of course.) I wish I was motivated enough to do it, but I'm content with not having a six pack. I think the eating disorder issue probably has an impact on her look, though, and those battling one are negatively impacted by her message and the other messages women are bombarded with on a daily basis expecting us to be a size 2 with zero body fat.

  • I think the eating disorder has to be affecting her on some level, but overall, I say good for her. Each momma is bound to have their own level of comfort with their bodies post baby. This may motivate some, infuriate others and leave some with no feelings one way or the other, but I think what's most important for moms (with kids of any age) is to feel comfortable in their own skin, whether it be with extra pounds or with 6 pack abs. I don't really like that this implies that those with extra pounds can't feel comfortable with that or good about themselves but like I said, on the whole though, I say good for her.

  • I was going to post something about this today too after hearing it on the radio.  The way I heard it was she didn't work, had a full time nanny, works out all day etc.  But the story I read (I can't click on the one you linked because it's blocked), said she actually runs 2 businesses, has no nanny.... so who knows what is actually true.

That being said, I think the way she said "what's your excuse?" could have been said in a more positive way.  If she really was looking to motivate other moms who are struggling, she could have said it in more of a "you can do it too" sort of way.  The way it's coming across could definitely make moms feel bad about themselves.  Does she look amazing - yes, but I think she was also looking for this kind of reaction.

  • She sounds very judgmental and self righteous. In my experience of encouraging patients to lead a healthier life style, exercise more and making better food choices, shaming does not work.

  • I think that's bitchy and I am the type of person who absolutely doesn't feel motivated by someone being a bitch to me. My sister swears by this boot camp style workout she goes to and the rebellious side of me would just get annoyed at the instructors for being rude. I am much more likely to be motivated in a positive environment.

I agree it's fat shaming too but I'm not exactly offended. I just think her message is lost in bitchieness.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • And I don't think anyone should enter a diet or workout plan because of shame. That's just bound to backfire...but maybe that's what it's like to have an eating disorder.

    I'll stop posting now. :)

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • She is beautiful but what is her back story? Is she a stay at home at mom? Did she breast feed all of her children? Does she work? How many hours a day does she leave her children to train? I work full time and squeeze in a run or two a few days a week and I am happy with that because I choose to spend the rest of my free time with my family.
  • Here is my thing, my excuse, as a full time working mom that only gets to see her daughter 2hrs a day during the week it is more important for me to get home and be with my child then go to a gym and work out for hours to get a body like that. I still try to make it to the gym 2-3 days a week but if I get held up in work I am not going to cut into my time with DD.

  • The picture and caption doesn't bother me.
But her message to the negative comments come off as martyrish.

  • She should have said her kids are her excuse to be fit, not that having kids is an excuse to NOT be fit. There are better ways to change the persistent notion that birthing babes ruins bodies and accept that fitness is measured by health, not dress size.

  • I honestly just don't care about my looks enough to look like that. I don't feel the need to be that fit. Oh, and I happily ate ice cream many, many times during my pregnancy.
  • Not everyone wants to look like a fitness model.

Okay. Maybe everyone DOES want to look like a fitness model but not everyone is willing to make that the primary goal in their life.

The promo picture itself seems like a marketing ploy, and at first glace I take no offense.  I do think the slogan comes off a bit cocky and in your face but hey, that's her perogative.  I didn't read the comments but evidently of people felt it was fat shaming?

I think her "apology" was not one at all.  She should have just kept her mouth shut, that would have spoken volumes.  Now she's just digging herself a hole.

  • I was reading her page a bit. She plans to do another 'What's your excuse?' when she's 60.

I can see where others are coming from, but it didn't come off as judgy to me. I didn't take it as 'I look great. Why don't you?'. I thought it was more like saying the 3 kids were her challenge that she overcame, just as everyone has their own challenges.
  • I would probably never have given it a second thought had it not become such a big deal in the media. I do not care.
