I have to pee! Before ultra sound lol

This is almost torture! Someone needs to come up with a better method than drinking the water before the ultra sound. I mean one bottle I get... But now that I am on my second bottle I feel like I might just pee my pants. Lol. Any other people feel like this before? I am thinking the transvaginal one would be so much easier... Empty bladder. Just had to voice this before my appt. I know my husband won't understand. Haha.

Re: I have to pee! Before ultra sound lol

  • Before my nt scan I had to pee sooooo bad I was in pain. I finally went up to the receptionist and told her and she told me to go. I got called in about 3 minutes later and they still got everything they needed

  • So weird how some doctors make you have a full bladder, and others don't.  I would check with the front desk and see if they can fit you in early since you're about to burst.  Good luck!

  • I am dreading my ultrasound for this reason. I pee and 10 minutes I am dancing and holding it in. I have to drink 16oz and not pee for an hour before... Good luck

  • That's funny - I've always been TOLD to pee before an ultrasound...in fact, at my 13w, when they couldn't get a good pic, they went and had me pee and it was clearer afterwards.

RIP Dr. Irving Fishman - 10/1/19-7/25/10 - thank you for holding on for me.

  • I called yesterday to make sure what was required for the a/s. No full bladder thank God! It was quite torturous last time!

  • I thought I would burst at my NT scan and then they made me pee because my bladder was too full and it was blocking everything. I never know what I'm supposed to do.
  • My old doc never told me to have a full bladder for ultrasounds. This new practice wants me to drink 32 ounces an hour before the appointment. Whaaaaaaat?!

  • That happened to me before my NT scan. I was in pain because I had to go so bad. The receptionist let me go a little before but it didn't help. Then the tech made me go twice during the scan because my bladder was so full.

  • I was never told to have a full bladder, but I did anyways at my NT scan because I'm thirsty all the time. The doctor laughed as he did the ultrasound and was like, "need to use the bathroom, huh" as he scanned over my very full bladder. It was pretty funny, and right when he was done he pointed me to the bathroom.

  • I have never been told to have a full bladder.
This last time before my anatomy scan the tech asked if I needed to go before he started.

  • Last u/s was vaginal and they made me pee beforehand... Then I got to my OB upstairs and they wanted a urine sample. #-o

At my u/s this morning the tech commented that I had a full bladder (in preparation for peeing in a cup for my OB after!). But she didn't say it was a problem.

  • My A/s on Monday requires a full bladder! Not sure how well that's going to pan out. The hospital is 20 min away so I think I'm going to go at home, then start drinking water as I'm driving there. Lol Hopefully that'll do?

  • I had my u/s yesterday & had to drink 24 oz. before the appointment. The tech let me pee until I was comfortable before we started. Then halfway through he scanned my bladder & let me go again since it was still pretty full. He even let me go a 3rd time to empty. I was so grateful & he got all the images he needed.
  • When I went to have my NT scan, the tech asked me if I had to pee before she started. I haven't heard that you should drink a ton or not pee before an ultrasound.

  • That happened me!! I was serriesly sick to my stomach. The ultrasound tech told me to empty my bladder and she would restart the ultrasound. And she got some of the photos other than baby was being unhappy cause we disturbed her.
  • Same thing happened to me. I didn't even start drinking until 30 mins before. When we got there we had to wait 30 mins in waiting room and I kept telling DH not to talk to me or I'd pee my pants. We got into the room and tech couldn't see anything bc my bladder was so full!!! It was squishing DS! she told me to empty it half way... that was NOT easy.
  • For my dating scan, they wanted 40oz two hours before and then to stop drinking an hour befor. I got about 30oz in but was in pain. Then I got to pee a cups worth out right away. Went I'm and the tech made me pee 3 more cups out because my full bladder was squishing baby. My a/s is today and this time she said to drink a glass or two in the hour before.

  • It doesn't need to be THAT full. At my a/s with DD he actually had me pee because he couldn't get the right measurements with me being SO full.

  • Seeing as how sharkie was dancing and wiggling the entire scan....and a full bladder.....the minute she said I could go (after she checked my cervix) I ran across the hall, goop on belly and all.

    Best....pee....ever!

  • before every u/s (I've had two so far and another one coming up) they tell me to drink 30 oz of water. yeah, right!!!! I just drink what I normally would with breakfast and show up and it hasn't been a problem. one tech even told me to go to the bathroom if I needed to....idk why they want you to have a full bladder but man it is mean. ha!

  • I am sooo happy to hear that I'm not the only one who had agonized over this... I agree with one of the previous comments about drinking it on the way in as I too had a really unpleasant experience that involved standing for 15min in the office before being told by the receptionist it was ok to empty a little, but then being called back before I could do so, only to be told by the tech that I needed to empty "halfway"- whatever that means, I mean reallllllly....- and then got back on the table and was told it was still quite full. Uh yeah! I got it! Thank god that imaging center was absolutely LOADED with bathrooms
