STM: What in your exp was the best bottle system?

Just interested in some opinions because the only person I really get advice from is my sister and her DD is 5 already so some of her advice is slightly outdated when it comes to some of the newer brands available....

  • We're an Avent family.

  • Dr.Browns...DD was a real gassy baby and they were the only ones that have her some relief

Yea it took some getting used to. It wasn't bad though. She was our first baby though and I used those and the playtex from the beginning so I wasn't too used to washing simple ones. We switched to just regular cheap parents choice bottles at 6 months.

  • I used the Tommee Tippee ones for DS. We also had a playtex airflow bottle but I didn't like it nearly as much. I love the Tommee Tippee bottles cause the nipples are similar in shape and feel to natural ones, so DS didn't get nipple confusion (we were BFing, but I was working at the time). Definitely plan to use them all again w/DD.

  • I second Tommee Tippee for the same reasons as PP. The nipple also has an "anti-colic" valve which supposedly helps with gas. DS wasn't a gassy baby, though, so I can't say whether or not they worked.
  • Both my kids used Playtex drop-ins with the silicon Natural latch nipples. They went back and forth between breast and bottle with no problem.

  • We used Medela (same ones that come with the pump).  DD wasn't a picky baby and it happened to be the ones we registered for that worked.  I would recommend buying 1 brand and only open 1 set (if you buy more don't open them) until you know what works.
  • Every single baby will be different. I suggest only buying one each of the brands you might like to try and see what baby likes. Our son liked Medela, Avent and Tommee Tippee.

  • My DD preferred Avent, but we tried Tommee Tippee and the Medela ones also.

  • DD only used Tommee Tippee. I was breastfeeding and we needed bottles for daycare. They were most like the real thing.

  • Playtex vent air advanced with DS until I had to start putting cereal in his bottles (Drs orders no bashing) then I switched to evenflow comfort but those are discontinued and replaced by evenflow bebo (I believe this is what they are called now) I liked those too but it's hard to say bc I couldn't breast feed so I didn't need to have certain bottles to help with the switching and what not.

Same here! I loved my drop ins, plus I felt like I was always using a clean bottle, I just quickly washed the nipples by hand and boom, your done :) I also nursed and went back and forth fine :)

(I do however recommend if you do both to introduce the bottle around two weeks… Too soon and sometimes babies don't want to nurse too late and sometimes they won't take a bottle ... the two week mark seem to be perfect for us)

  • We used Dr Browns when she was tiny, but after 3 mo she started refusing anything but the boob. We tried a ton (Breastflow, Avent, Born free, Medela, several others I can't think of right now) and she really didn't like anything. She kinda took an Avent around 10 mo but still hated it. We ended up introducing a sippy early instead (around 5 mo) - she did better with that.

  • We used avent evaluate they went with my pump. Don't get a ton of any one bittle because some babies are picky (mine was not) and you don't want to stock up only to find they don't like that brand. I've heard good things about tommee tippee, too.

  • Comotomo bottles.   Only bottle my breastfed baby would go for.

We did Playtex drop-ins too! Good for BF or FF. I loved the easy clean up and how sanitary they are.

The interesting thing to me about the drop-ins, is that they have definitely lasted several generations (my mom used them, my sister used them on her 14 year old daughter, I used them on my 2 year old). They have changed some, particularly the shape of the nipples is now more natural, and all the parts including the drop ins are now BPA free, but the basic technology has lasted.

ETA: They are great for gassy babies too b/c you can really get the air out.

  • Whatever works for your baby.  I've noticed that the first one they get is usually the one they go for as long as their pacifier has a similar shape.  I wouldn't buy a brand and sanitize and go through all that until you know what your baby likes though.  I did and I ended up just giving them away because DS preferred the Medela bottles that came with my pump.

  • Mam. Hands down. The only one that my daughter did well with bc she had trouble latching (to anything), and they kept air out.
  • We love Born Free bottles. No problems with them whatsoever and I love the glass bottles.

All are welcome in my posts

  • Also, if you're breastfeeding you will probably never need big bottles. 4-5 ounce ones will work fine.

  • Tommee tippee
  • Playtex drop-ins.  It reduced his gas and spit up.  Get a bunch of different ones because you might have to try quite a few out.

  • Tommee Tippee here too. We got the newborn starter pack thing (back in 2011, ours had like 2 small bottles and 4 large and a bottle brush - best bottle brush ever) and that was all we ever needed. We never even got the easier nipples because DS was a great sucker from BFing and never needed anything faster than the newborn nipple. We switched from bottles to sippys at around a year (started transitioning at maybe like 8 mo).

Biggest thing for me was the number of parts. Just the bottle, cap, nipple, and ring part that holds the nipple on. I hand wash all of our bottles - just something I like to do because I feel sure they are clean - so number of parts was my #1 priority.

  • I bought dr browns bc they are so recommended but i got sick of washing all those parts! we switched to playtex.
warning though...some babies are very particular about what kind of bottle they would use. I think typically the advise i hear and see is to get a few different kinds and wait and see what works best for your baby.

  • I used the Playtex Ventaire with both of my kids but that was over 6 years ago.  I'm also wondering if there are new bottles that would be better.  :)     I'll probably just use the bottles I have first and see if they work.
  • I used Dr. Brown's but I hated how many parts they had. I'm hoping this baby won't be picky about bottles. I'm planning to try Avent or Tommy Tippee.

  • I loved Tommee Tippee and I also used Avent. My son drank both perfectly fine and didn't have a problem breast feeding too.
  • Avent all the way here!
  • My BF baby wasn't picky at all, it seems I got pretty lucky there. We use Avents.
I pumped into the Medela bottle, and stored in Lasinoh bags.

    I did the exact same!

Of all the bottles I have for DD, I think the Playtex VentAire have been my favorites. I feel like the angled shape of the bottle helped her a bit when she started holding the bottles for herself as well. That would still be my recommendation!
