Very very planned. I had messed up cycles. Long cycles with really short LPs and so we had been trying. Thankfully I was charting so I was able to figure it out rather quickly and we ended up getting pregnant pretty soon after that. It was actually the first month I started doing things to lengthen my LP. I also stopped nursing DD. I took a test in the evening and DH had gone out to the store. While he was gone I put DD in a "I'm going to be a big sister" t-shirt and waited for him to notice when he got home. He was really excited. I of course cried.
Beautiful stories....I love reading them. @meimsx I wanted to tell my family like this but I had a Christmas party and my aunt and cousin figured it out. I went to lay down while they were still in my house (at 12 am -my family party long and hard). That was a give away apparently...

  • Planned :)  But I definitely thought I was out during the cycle I got pregnant.
  • Planned and 2 surprises. Not twins! I stopped taking pill January 2012. In October 2011 I told doctor I was considering another child but was high risk previously. We discussed everything and she said when ready stop pills and because I had been on them about 10 years she figured I wouldn't ovulate for at least 3 months. I got pregnant first time having sex. We weren't ready yet DH is kinda old fashion, me I was fine with just being together. But since doc said 3 months to ovulate he planned on proposing in February when we were on vacation. I found out 2 days after he proposed, however I miscarried.
We tried for 6 months after that I was set to start Clomid in November. I had been charting so I didn't think I was pregnant I ovulated on Halloween and DH was out of town. Yes we had sex 3 days earlier and I know sperm can last 5 days...I just didn't think it happened. I wanted to do something fun because DH was out of town but I blurted it out as soon as he called me.

  • Surprise! My husband was ready for a while but I wasn't there. I had a moment of clarity after my grandmothers sudden passing last summer, and asked myself what I was waiting for since family is so important to me. Went off my birth control pill in October, and after two unprotected times, I had a gut feeling. My period was 3 days late so I decided to buy a test while I was out of town in business. I bought it, and between the purchase of it and my arrival home, I found out my boss was quitting, a big project I was working on went sideways, and I smashed my phone to bits. I hadn't told my husband I suspected I was pregnant until I walked in the door at home that day as a total mess. Took the test immediately, watched it turn positive, and had a severe panic attack! Spent the night hyperventilating- my husband was so calm though. The next day was better- i was very happy but it took a while for the panic to subside!
  • Surprise.  We knew we wanted our babies close together so we started trying when DD was 6 mos old. That first one took.  I was pregnant for 14 weeks before I M/C that being my secon m/c I told DH that I wanted to wait until after the holidays to try again because I didn't want to be depressed and have bad memories of the holidays, they are my favorite time of year.

We went to Cleveland for a football game and just a weekend alone, and I wasn't on the pill but I had just had my first post m/c cycle, didn't think about it much since we had been out drinking and were staying in the nicest hotel we'd ever stayed in and we weren't careful but the thought never even crossed my mind.

It didn't even dawn on me until mid November when I was lilke, hmmm... where's AF, she should've been here by now... decided I had a test left, I'd take it... I told DH in a "hey I'm pregnant" kind of way, I wasn't overly excited, because after getting excited with my first pregnancy and losing it, then no real excitement until 20 weeks for DD, and even then it was muted, I got excited with BFP 3 and lost that baby, so I couldn't make myself get excited, for nearly my whole pregnancy.

We told everyone at Christmas, after I had a good ultrasount and could see the forming baby.  I was still nervous and didn't want to tell anyone.  DD handed out my Ultrasound pics to the family.

  • Definitely a surprise for us. I was on BC and we used condoms. Out wedding was in November, two days before me and friends were joking around that because I hadn't had AF (I thought it as stress for the wedding) was because I was pregnant. I took a test and never looked, I just threw it away. The next morning I threw up, I dug in the trash can and found the positive test. I called my DH and told him he needed to buy more pregnancy tests on the way home. I took 8 because I was in such denial. Then I felt stupid because I should have waited to take the test because I didn't even get to drink for my wedding I planned so hard for! Lol

It wound up being the best surprise ever though.
  • Planned for us. We weren't charting or anything but had pulled the goalie over the summer. I think it was my fourth cycle that we got pregnant. My period was only a day late, and DH kept saying I should wait to test. I didn't, and when he came in from walking our dog that morning, I ran out and told him I was pregnant and then burst into tears. He was so excited! He's always wanted to be a dad. He did a very thorough inspection of the pee stick! Haha

  • Surprise, but I can't say shock ;)
DD1 was a Clomid baby, so planned for is an understatement. Prayed for, begged for, etc is more like it!
We were kind of loosely charting after her bc I hated the mini pill and just never got around to getting an alternative. Soooo we knew it was risky. We were still surprised though!

I have an IUD now. No more surprises!
@CarlaAndJames and I are kindred spirits and like to have our babies at the same time in the same way :).  DS was a Clomid baby.  DD big surprise.  AF didn't come back till around the time I weaned at 14/15 months and I pretty much got pregnant right away.  We weren't  preventing because we didn't think I could get pregnant without some kind of assistance.  And apparently we were wrong!

The funny thing is my mom was the same - 2 clomid babies then 2 surprises! You'd think I'd have known better than to let the "well we needed help last time..." thought to creep in. Glad though, so happy to have my little man!

  • Unexpected blessing. We were using protection and had just finished discussing that we would love to start trying for our first in 2016. I had just gone off depo and we were using condoms. I missed my period but didnt didnt realize until a week after since the few periods I'd had were all over the place. We hadnt had sex for weeks and used condom when we finally did. We conceived october 10.

My husband and I were joking around and I play punched him and when he play punched me back i burst in to tears and told him how mean he was lol. He went put and bought some tests because he was nervous. I got my positive hpt on november 12 as I was too scared to test beore since we felt we werent ready for a baby. The lab confirmed my pregnancy november 13. We were at the gym and when I told my husband he didnt even want to talk about it lol.

These stories are making me tear up!

Not planned. I forgot to put my Nuva-ring back in the month we moved. I had lots on my plate and spaced out.

The night I found out, my husband was on the phone with his best friend. He had just told him they were pregnant with their 3rd baby. I heard my husband joking around and said "Oh no! My dad always told me never to have three cause you'll be out-numbered!" I felt like I could be pregnant so I ran upstairs and took another test (I had gotten a negative one the week before and was surprised I wasn't). It was positive right away. I walked downstairs and he knew right when he saw my face!! We laughed and his friend had heard the whole thing on the phone. Now we were "out-numbered" too. It was pretty awesome. I had always wanted three so I couldn't be happier.
  • both. we had been trying for over a year and had just finished fertility testing, so when I turned up pregnant without any intervention it was a surprise!

    Also a July 2013 Mom!
  • Planned. The surprises came later :)

We were going to start ttc in August because a May baby would've been ideal for my school schedule, but I had a wacky 60-day cycle and we had to wait. Turns out Lucas was meant to be a May baby anyway!

I was charting because my cycles are weird (I used to go 6mo without a period before starting BCP at 19); we were successful on our 2nd cycle trying. I was going to do something special to tell DH, but I got a super faint line that I thought I was imagining so instead I just shoved a pee stick in his face (he thought I was imagining the line too). I held my pee for hours and took an FRER that afternoon, and our dog met him at the door in a big brother shirt when he came home from work.

This kid may not have a lot of bowel, but he has plenty of guts!
DS born at 34 weeks with (surprise!) gastroschisis turned short bowel syndrome.
131 days in the NICU, 7 trips to the OR, G-button, daily TPN....
We are impatiently awaiting the day we can say goodbye to his girlfriend Ivy for good.
  • Planned! We tried for 2 cycles went without BC for 4 cycles before I got pg!

  • Crap I forgot the how question too!

I was talking to my SO brothers girlfriend ( if that makes sense) and she told me how they had had a scare. Everything clicked in my head and I decided to take a test, I got a BFP in about two seconds. I drive right to SOs office and as soon as I walked on he said, "you're pregnant" and I said yes and he goes "great so we are getting married now." I laughed and said "ew no"... Neither of us ever wanted to get married, but now with h it'd be nice to have the same last name

  • Super surprise. I found out May 10 when I was at the dr for what I thought was a bladder infection. Turns out my iud was placed when I was about 8 weeks pregnant and the dr didnt make me take a test. She told me I was pregnant and started asking me all these questions like "do you know what you're gonna do" "what do you want?" "How do you feel?" I was like, I don't know lady this is a huge surprise, I thought I had an iud!!! I had no idea how far along I was so she sent me straight to an ultrasound. I was shaking so bad I could barely drive. I texted SO and told him I was pregnant and I was going to the ultrasound to find out how far along. I went to the ultrasound and my phone died and then I found out I was 28 weeks. I layed on that table and laughed And cried, and laughed and cried. Then I had to go straight to work for 8 hours so I didn't tell SO until I got home at minight that night! I have never loved him more than when he hugged me and told me that he believed in us and told me he wanted to start this adventure together.
Holy crap!!! How did I not know you were one of those chicks?! The "I didn't know I was pregnant" chicks. Wow! And I thought @lizzierb found out late. Wow.

28 Weeks!!! Wow that was a surprise you only had a bit of time to adjust and prepare.

  • Surprise! My boobs usually hurt when my periods about to come, but they had been hurting for a couple of weeks with no period (which is semi-normal for me), so I called my doctor and literally laughed when they asked if I had taken a pregnancy test. Withdrawal didn't work for us this time either. But my LO is the absolute joy of my life now :)

  • For @jackson290721, I wish this had been a clicky poll ;)

Finn was definitely planned.  We'd been trying for a few months, but with me working nights and the kids being home during the day, it was hard to get the timing quite right.  I was due for AF on 10/30, and when she never appeared, I picked up a test from CVS on the way home from work on Halloween morning.  It was pretty faint, so I didn't quite believe it.  The next morning I picked up a digital test.  I didn't do anything special to tell SO. I just showed him the test.

  • Planned and surprised. DH was married before but him and his ex were never able to conceive. Various tests showed he had low sperm count and borderline low testosterone. Five years later and five years older DH was certain it would take us while to conceive if it was to happen at all. We got pregnant the first month we tried.

    Clicky polls are the best!

LO was a HUGE surprise. I was on the pill. Also I've been on BC since I was 12. I figured it would take me forever to get pregnant once we actually started trying. I was way wrong apparently.
I had morning sickness pretty awful. I didn't know it though because I worked at a day care. I figured I was just sick from being around all the kids during cold season. DH and I carpooled to work since the day care was on the way to his work. One day on the way back home I realized AF hadn't shown up....for like a month and a half...haha I was always irregular but not that irregular. We stopped and got a test, sure enough I was pregnant. I didn't sleep at all that night. Of course DH was sound asleep. pfft men. lol

  • @meimsx @jennipalmer @fklang yes it was a huge shock. I had absolutely no clue. I'm so lucky that she is super healthy. The best surprise I've ever gotten :)

  • Absolutely planned. After a miscarriage at 7 weeks, we tried for another year with no luck. This is round 2 of clomid + ovidrel + IUI.
Mom to three girls and pregnant with #4!
    L: 7/12/13
    C: 5/11/15
    E: 3/7/17
    Due 11/10/18
  • Planned.
Still immune to tickers. Polite Canadian 99% of the time. SAHM of 7 soon to be 8. I read more than I post.
  • Planned and surprise. We tried for four years and then went to a fertility clinic. Tried clomid (something similar but i can't remember the name) for a few months and then IUI. So by the time we actually became pregnant I was starting to believe it would never happen.
  • DS was both. We tried three times for another baby. The two miscarried babies were a suprise. I was on the pill.
The first time I told DH when he went to toss me on the bed for a tickle fight and I yelled no and told him he couldn't and showed him the bfp test and he was so happy. Two month later we lost the baby.
The second time I told him by putting it in his Christmas bag with a "daddy's little buddy" onsie and a baby book for dads. He was so happy that he picked me up and spun me around but he lost his excitement a few days later because of the last miscarriage. The day before valentines day we lost our second child.
This time I told him by taking a picture of the test and saying congrats daddy in a text. He wouldn't allow himself, nor would I, to get attached to this one because of the last two losses but now we have our healthy little baby boy.
  • 100% planned. I actually got pregnant the 2nd month trying but I lost that baby at about 4 weeks. I didn't know when I would ovulate next and we were going to wait until at least one period to start a fresh new cycle. I never did get that period because one of the few times we DTD while we were waiting worked and I got pregnant with my rainbow baby. So I guess it was kind of also a surprise that it happened so quickly after losing the other pregnancy.
