Tradition!

Put your Halloween traditions here!

We got two pumpkins on Sat. We got out of the habit of carving when SIL turned her annual carving party into a "you can't take then home, I'm using them to decorate my restaurant" labor camp. Sad to see you go, awesome punkins!

Now with B we might carve them this week. What a mess we'll make! And my sis has now claimed Halloween as her holiday, so she'll have a party we'll prolly go to since we get zero trick or treaters in my hood. Last year B spent the whole time screaming, so I'm hoping she'll be more social this time. She's going to be a sunflower. I have no idea what DH and I will be. We've half assed it in the past, no telling what we'll pull out of out ass this time. The only time I've put in effort, I was Wonder Woman and I milked it for 3 years. It's still my favorite.

Enough about me. Whatcha got?

Re: Tradition!

  • We're going over to a friend's house. He lives in a more family oriented neighborhood. We'll probably TOT for a little while. DS is going to be a giraffe. I tried his costume on him yesterday. It was the damned funniest thing I've ever seen. Especially when the dog started "attacking" him (he's 8lbs) and then DS turned around and started hugging the dog. DH said it should have been on you tube. Giraffe vs Pomapoo. hahahahaha

  • Growing up, we usually carved pumpkins the weekend before Halloween.  My dad is a great pumpkin artist, and my sister is, too, but I didn't really inherit that!  We aren't carving at our house this year but definitely will when Charlotte is old enough to care.  Or we might paint because I actually think that is more fun.

We were all about the trick or treating when I was a kid.  My mom made our costumes every year and was SUPER creative with it.  We always went to the fabric store to pick our patterns and fabric, which was fun.  I definitely remember eating McDonald's most Halloweens before trick or treating.

I am buying Charlotte a store-bought tiger costume this year because I don't have time to sew.  We'll take her around to the neighbor's houses in her little wagon to show off her cuteness, and then head home to sit in the yard and pass out candy.  We'll get lots of visitors - I teach at the neighborhood school and know many neighbor kids.  That's going to be our tradition for now!
  • My Dad used to make chili and hand put candy dressed up while my mom took us out. My BFF would come with and we often did coordinated costumes.

My park had a haunted hay ride and festival so we'd go to that first and start trick or treating from the park.

In the future, I hope to trick or treat with the cousins but we will go alone this year since they're 700 miles away. I'll make chili and carve pumpkins. H and I will watch a scary movie after Howell is in bed.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • Am I the only one who thinks the pumpkin on the left looks like boobs? Sorry @Nenecakies!  They are great pumpkins!

We don't have any Halloween traditions. I'm not even sure I'm dressing T up yet this year. Maybe we'll do a mall walk or something. My ass really doesn't need a bunch of candy in my possession.

  • @asales727, ding ding ding! You are correct. It is pumpkin boobs. My H carved it on a dare.

  • I usually make chili or some kind of soup. DH passes out candy. I take girls out TOT. We did a pumpkin for a couple of years when DD1 was little. But she doesn't like to help, "it's gross I'm not touching" We'll see for this year.
What we really like to do is go to Magic Kingdom for the Mickey's not so scary Halloween party. But sadly we don't live close and only make that every 5 years or so.

  • I'm loving reading about these great traditions. I'm going to try to make the kids' (future...only one right now, no news to relate ;) costumes every year. This year she is going to be Madeline. I'm too excited!! I also love carving up pumpkins and decorating. As she gets older, I'd love to host a Halloween party for my kids and their friends. I adore this holiday!
seriously... Madeline is the cutest ever!! I can't wait to see that... @LiliDragon

DH decided he would be Darth Vader and K a padawan. He's trying to get me to be princess Leia but I'm not sure if I'm on board with that. seems so played out... we'll see.

We normally do the Harvest festival at a church.  It's a pretty big deal with about 20+ air jumpers for all ages, games, performances, costume contest, etc.  They get hundreds of kids.  I'd like to start a tradition but not sure what that would be... Love the pumpkin carving thing...
