Is he emptying my boob?

in October 2013 Moms
So I'm supposed to feed him on one side till he empties a boob then start the other?  Well I can barely keep him awake while feeding and I have to go through a whole shebang to wake him up to feed every 2 hours, but more importantly how do I know if hes emptied it?

    Undress him, tickle his foot, change his diaper before feeding to help wake him up.

    It isn't easy at the start and it does get so much easier. Each day.
    Yes, baby needs to empty breast but remember our breasts are never completely empty.
    Can you undress baby to diaper, and take off your top to nurse? Then as baby starts to fall asleep, tickle his legs a little, or feet, or belly to keep him going. Doing this with tilly (2 days) right now :D

    As long as you're remembering to start with the other breast each time you feed so you don't end up lopsided, it should start to work out even if you're not sure you get completely empty in the vey beginning. They eat so little at first - but thy eat a little ore each day.

    My DS never ate from both sides. He would eat from one for like 45 minutes (at this stage, don't worry they get much faster) and was done. I just alternated which side I fed him on. I wore a super attractive rubber band bracelet to remind me of where to start.
