I don't know if this has ever been posted here or if I came across it on Pinterest... Hard to tell anymore. But, in case any of you write letters to your kids, or babybook, or scrapbook, or email (which is what I do)... These are some really insightful, and thought provoking subjects that (I think) she'll appreciate. One day.

This is part of my reasoning also. I think it's important for her to know who I was, as a person, and not just who I was as her mother. Ideally I will give her the password to this email address or print outs in the event that Google goes under and gmail no longer exists (laughable??) when shes expecting her first child or if she chooses not to have children, when she's old enough to appreciate it... So she knows shes not the only one that has ever worried about EVERYTHING and that this too, whatever it may be, shall pass.

This is amazing. I have a question... how do you come up with this stuff? Where? How? Is your mom this way too? You always seem to have a lot of foresight and thoughtfulness. It just blows my mind. My mom would never in a million years do any of this.

I think it comes from a lot of places... My mother... No. But by way of my mother, yes. There are a lot of things that I need to make sure are different in my relationship with Eleanor than the relationship that I have with my mom. To me it is very important that she doesn't feel isolated at any station of her life... She needs to know I've been there, and back. I think the only way that is going to happen is if we have a mutual awareness of each other as individuals. An understanding and the ability to communicate with one another when the inevitable (hormones, teenage years, boys, bad grades, etc...) Rises up.

And as far as my insight and thoughtfulness (thank you, that was a lovely compliment)... I'm an only child with an old soul and an extensive vocabulary. I've spent a lot of my life thinking. I've always subscribed to the "be kinder than necessary, you don't know what sort of battles other people are fighting" mindset. My dad has always told me that there is no reason not to help someone if you can. And that just makes so much sense to me.
