dairy farm probs....ugh

MY husband and I live on and own a 185 acre dairy in wa state north of seattle and last night was the third time in a week that a sherrif has knocked on our door around 2-3am ....cows are out....so some kids we are assuming are finding it funny to cut the wire fencing letting cows out...well this morning at 3 am they cut the part of our pasture that has our pregnant cows...11 cows missing and we have a train track very busy behind our property. ..I'm so tired having to round up cows with my husband all night..keeping them out of the road finallh got them in only to notice one missing...well a car had hit her and her and there was a big accident , ultimately the mamma was in sosouch pain the vet had to put her down..we have owned our dairy almosy 8years my husband was raised on it with his family and the cow we lost was one he helped birth when he was 9 so I dont know what to do he's having a hard time and just in abad mood but I totally understand...so while he's out fixing gates and fences I'm purchasing security cameras to catch these little excuse my language f, ers....this is ridiculous I have two kids that are tired of being woke up I'm pregnant and running around getting the cows pit away ugh im so tired this week and need to vent its been a long week...this is just ridiculous....

Hubby's been working on the fences a fuse blew all the circuits otherwise this wouldn't have happened it's sad I feel for him...

I might put out a notice in the town paper that you're on the lookout for these jerks and are now watching them on hidden camera. Maybe it will encourage parents to ensure their lovely angels are in bed because I'm sure there has to be a fine for their behavior. I mean they not only damaged your property, caused the death of two cows (hefer and calf) but they endangered the public by causing an accident! Good luck and keep us updated!

Maybe the local paper would write an article about it. What a pain to be having to get up in the middle of the night to chase cows, especially pregnant.

On a crappier note we leave weds for Alabama and have never left the farm and this will have an anxiety filled trip written all over it having to count on our milkers to keep the farm in order ugh I just wanna say screw the trip ugh sorry Im just so so stressed out ugh

That's insane! I would definitely take PP's advice and contact your newspaper! Maybe it will scare the kids responsible and get parents to think about where their kids are at night. So sorry you have to deal with that!

Oh gosh, we own a ranch and I would be livid if someone let our cows out! I can't imagine someone even thinking about doing that! How dangerous and ridiculous!! I would def be getting their faces on camera and make them pay for the cows you lost plus "labor" of searching for them, getting them back in and fixing fence.

I also would post signs saying hidden cameras. And shotgun ready.

I think you should post the story somewhere. The kids may think its a harmless prank, but hearing the result may make them realize exactly what they're doing. They may not come forward as a result, but hopefully they would stop.

And instead of "beware of dog" a "beware of owner" sign, with a picture of someone holding a shotgun. I love it! I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. I couldn't imagine doing what you do.

I feel your pain! I am a dairy farmers wife in the uk and our fields back onto a park that leads to hospital.... Seems people enjoy cutting our fences too! Drives us mad!

That is horrible. I grew up on a sheep farm and nothing like this ever happened but I can imagine how horribly frustrating not to mention tiring this must be for you.

Well 7 am here, just talked to hubby milker told him their were some kids, jumped a fence picked mushrooms and our milker scared them off...don't think same kids... Unfortunately we have a hs Down the road......I just wanna scream an say f it to our year long planned trip to Alabama idk what to do at this point.....
