Is too much poop possible?

Is it even possible for a baby to poop too much? DS is 2 1/2 weeks old and currently, I'm changing around 30+ poopy diapers per day (excluding those that are just wet).  DD had a bad milk problem that we discovered late, so I've tried to limit my dairy intake in case this manifests in DS as well (EBF).  Can excessive poop be a sign of a dairy intolerance? He was a dream the first few days, but has gotten increasingly cranky as he gets older, and I'm wondering if this is a milk problem as well or if he's just being a typical baby.

  • That's normal. DD used to poop every single time she ate. Now at 9 weeks so only goes once a day or sometimes once every couple days. Don't worry it will slow down!

    This.
But I'm not a pediatrician AND I'm a FTM. DD pooped her way to a 7% weight loss in day 1, though. So I get why you are wondering. I would ask just to be safe. I would also cut out dairy. I have to do the same thing with DD because she poops like a maniac if I have milk.

  • Lo was about a month when we discovered her milk protein intolerance. I changed 17 poopy diapers one day and she started to get mucus and blood in her stool. We brought her to the ped and she said that was too many and if she kept it up, she could easily become dehydrated. We switched to soy and she was pooping 2-3x a day after that. When we were in process of switching it, the ped said if she had more than 8 a day we needed to come back in and would've had to do a stool sample to rule out illness. I'd call the ped if I were you.

  • Ok I just saw the number 30 and assumed you were exaggerating. If not you should definitely call the pedi. That is a lot of that is the real number
