So do you other mommies usually set baby down at/by a time? What if baby isn't/doesn't seem tired yet? Do you let them play till they are tired? Or do you enforce some sort of sleep training regardless?
I go by his cues. When he's tired he's tired. At one point I tried putting him down at the same time every night. That did NOT go well. I don't always go to bed the same time every night, so it is the same with him. It is generally between 8:00-10:00 though.
I let her pick when to sleep. She does have a sort of pattern but sometimes she will skip a nap and have a sooner bedtime or sleep longer in the am and then go to bed later. Sometimes her naps won't effect her bedtime at all. You just have Togo with the flow. But recognizing the daily pattern helps me to plan my day.
7:00-7:30 every night. If by 7 she's still awake we start bedtime regardless, but usually she starts getting cranky 630-645. She'll play in her crib until she falls asleep
Little Riley-our first little girl coming March 1st, 2013 (or sometime around there;)
Between 7-8. If he woke up from his last nap earlier, than as close to 7 as possible. If a little later, then I usually will keep him up until I put DS1 to bed at 8 because it's easier. But only if he's not super tired, obviously.
I go by DDs cues but she's usually down for the night between 7 and 9pm. It all depends on her naps during the day and what time she eats. If she's awake I let her play and tire herself out. We also try to do some fresh air in the evening with either some time sitting on our deck or a walk with the dog. Something about that evening air helps her fall asleep faster/better.
My LO is like clockwork with bedtime. He gets cranky by about 6:30 every night... That's my cue to get the bath ready. We go through our routine and he is in his crib and sleeping by 7:30. Doesn't matter how many naps or how long he napped throughout the day. He's pretty predictable on that sense. Now if only he'd stay asleep all night:)
I do bath and book by a schedule. Usually 6:30 to 7:00. Then if he's looking sleepy, which is 90% of the time, bottle and bed. If not, a little play time.

We have the same routine every night (dinner, bath, bottle, bed) but the time varies depending on the time and length of his last nap. He's normally down between 7 and 8. We tried the scheduled, lay him down at the same time every night thing and it did not go well! We learned our lesson quick!
We have been going by a schedule, but LO is like clockwork when it comes to getting tired, so really I'm going by her cues and starting the bedtime routine around 6:00pm. I want to start pushing it later little by little because I'd like for us to be able to go out late afternoon, early evening and not have a grouch on our hands. But if it doesn't work, it's no big deal because she's a good nighttime sleeper.
Between 8:30 and 9:30, but lately he is waking up again at 10:-10:30 and staying up for another hour before going back to sleep. Frustrating. Time to Ferberize this kid.
