Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Reflux Moms

My LO is 6.5 months and has pretty bad reflux.
He was off his meds for a month or two to see if he had gotten over it, and he was spitting up so much that the doctor was concerned with his weight gain. He went from the 90% down to the 62%. We went back on the Prevacid on Monday night and are hoping to see improvement again soon.

My question is concerning spitting up and sleep. For the past couple nights and naps I've noticed when I go in to either get him up or check on him that theres spit up on his sleep sack/sheet.(It's also brownish, which I'm assuming is from the prunes that I have to constantly give him for constipation issues, right?) I'm concerned about him choking in his sleep. What do you all do for this? He's all over the place when he sleeps, whenever I look at the monitor he's in a completely different position.

Also- when did the reflux seem to go away for you? The spit is SO MUCH and all the time, that I don't want to give him to people other than my husband or mom to hold cause I'm afraid he'll throw up all over them! Hopefully the prevacid will help get this under control.

Re: Reflux Moms

  • My son is just now 6 months and he has been on zantac and now prevacid and he is still spitting up almost the same amount as before. I hope the prevacid works for you but it hasn't helped much over here. Good Luck!

  • DS1 had bad reflux as an infant. I think qe would regularly go through 5 to 10 outfits a day with him, lol. He choked in his sleep onlyonce , when he was very small and still using the rock n play with a swaddle. After that we had to prop him on his side while in there and we were not allowed to sleep him flat on his back, only on an incline, until he was out of the swaddle and moving more. After he was able to roll over both ways and was scooching around the crib the doctor told us we didn't need to worry about it anymore. He always ended up on his side or belly to sleep. His.reflux went away sometime after 12 months but he still has some residual feeding issues now at 3 1/2. He eats very little and never much at one sitting which I think is because of associating eating with pain for so long.
