Yeah, I get annoyed with the "no vac" movement. What I hate even more is when they use the excuse, "We are all doing what we think is best for our kids..." Only they aren't just putting their own kid at risk. Those people who don't vaccinate their kids are also putting all of the kids who are too young to have full immunity or who truly can't get vaccines (i.e. autoimmune compromised like when receiving chemo) at risk, too.

This cancer cure cover up business is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard for so many reasons. The first evidence that you have no clue what you are talking about is the notion that SGK would be responsible for finding a cure. Don't even get me started on the pink ribbon campaign.
Maybe it's an UO in and of its self, but it makes me angry to think about the money people pour into pink crap when they have no idea where that money goes. There are lots of other even deadlier cancers out there that are severely under funded. It's great that people want to donate money, but research your causes carefully and know where your dollars are being spent.

1. The first clue for me was a combination of that plus the fact that she didn't actually get the SGK name right.

I wonder if they have found a cure for diabetes too. I mean they raise thousands of dollars a year also. I am assuming not though since I am still taking insulin on a daily basis. Just because they raise money doesn't mean they have found a cure and they are hiding it.
@horselover11 - so your MIL has a weird gastro issue that other countries have meds for but the US doesn't allow. This is your proof that they've cured cancer and not told us? Wouldn't the other countries figure it out too and be flaunting it all over? You've heard about these other meds, you can bet your ass that we would have heard about a cancer cure too!

I don't think skipping the flu shot is the same as being anti vax. I typically get incredibly sick from it and don't get it. My son has no reaction so he gets it along with all of his other vaccines. I agree with your UO. I donated to a friend's Relay for Life team in honor of my mother (who died from lung cancer last year) before researching the charity and only realized after the fact that they got a pretty shitty grade on charitywatch.org. I was bummed. Some charities allocate funds a lot more efficiently than others.
This is why i care about what has been said about hiding the cure for cancer. Do you honestly think that if one country found it, the US would swoop in and keep it for themselves?! Are you honestly that self-absorbed as a nation that you think the US has the final say on the health of every nation in the world?
And yes, i'm glad i don't live in the US because i know that if i ever get hit by a car, i can go to my nearest hospital and get treated for free with no insurance, no questions asked. it baffles me that people think "Obamacare" is a bad thing and that many people in the US see healthcare as a privilege and not a right.
Where as I don't completely agree with "cancer cute hiding" poster... I do know that if you are in close proximity with someone going through chemo or any other kind of immune suppressing treatment... You're not supposed to get the flu shot. (Not supporting in the cancer hiding thing, but just saying we shouldn't be busting her for something like that) I don't think she meant it as a "I refuse vacs cause it's bad for my baby and stupid to save myself or baby from illness/disease".
**Lighting a candle in memory of our angel babies and angel mama in heaven from May'14**
I agree on the Obamacare! And I am so flipping tired of all of my right-wing, nut job friends/family members posting this ridiculous ish on facebook with this made up crap showing how Obamacare is 500 times more expensive for this small cohort of people...and, of course, this all came out before the ACA rates were even available so you know it is based on lies. DH and I just got our ACA quotes and it will save us half of what we were previously paying...and that was when we were both in excellent health with no pre-existing conditions. Previously, in excellent health, we were paying over $1400 per month for three of us. Now, for similar coverage, it will cost us $724. (And the two scenarios aren't even comparing apples to apples because we now have pre-existing conditions that completely prevented us from getting certain coverage prior to the ACA that we didn't have when we were paying $1400 per month!) That may seem high, but it is for 3 people with a low deductible, no max, low OOP expenses, etc. We could get a plan much cheaper if we went with a high deductible plan.
Oh, and my DH's office manager who is early 60's and was previously uninsurable was able to get coverage (with a high deductible) for $90-something a month under the ACA.
So how is this bad again? Creating a marketplace where self-insured individuals can actually get affordable care? You tell me. Ugh
PS - I am not even anti-republican. But some of my relatives are truly are right-wing, planning-for-the-end-of-civilization, nut jobs.

No, you ARE supposed to get the flu shot. If you're the one getting chemo/immune suppressed you don't get the shot, so you hope that those around you will get theirs to decrease your risk of exposure. Or, like, if you have a newborn that can't get the vaccine, you should be extra sure to get your flu shot.
I do know that if you are in close proximity with someone going through chemo or any other kind of immune suppressing treatment... You're not supposed to get the flu shot.
Definitely not true. I take care of many immunosuppressed patients and myself and all my colleagues are REQUIRED to get flu shots (or wear a mask for 6 months out of the year). In most cases, we absolutely recommend that they, along with all their family members, get flu shots. The flu shot, unlike the flu mist, is not a live vaccine. The flu mist would not be recommend.

And the real irony is that a huge portion of the conservative right-wing population is low-income and under-educated. They're brainwashed with fear tactics and the promise of the "American dream" into hating the very policies that would do them the most good.

Yes! Holy cow, I just found out many of the parents in my nice friendly playgroup don't vaccinate, so I've begun wondering if it would be weird to disappear with my baby until the 3 month vaccines happen. Whooping cough kills the babies who aren't old enough for the shot, people!

Actually, I could've sworn I read medical researchers are making good progress with creating an artificial pancreas. It's not at a clinically useful stage yet, and if I understand it correctly it might only help people with type 1 diabetes, but it's coming.

Second of all, your UO is not only idiotic and insensitive, it proves you know very little about cancer. It rocks me purely to my core. I'm one of "those people" who have apparently cured cancer and not told anyone about it. I coordinate clinical research at a top ten facility in the United States. I would think that if there's a cure out there, I'd know about it. Hell, I wouldn't have a job if there was a cure out there we are hiding.
I highly, highly suggest you take 15 minutes to learn about cancer, how it works, and why we don't don't know everything about it. You can check out www.cancer.gov and www.cancer.org. If you would like to find out actually how little we know about cancer, you can look at www.clinicaltrials.gov and read about the 12,000+ trials that are available solely to investigate cancer.
And for those of you who think there is all of this money to be made in cancer treatment, there really isn't. We don't design new drugs or combinations of drugs to make money. We do it because cancer is fucking awful.

Regarding the "crazy Right Wingers" opposed to ACA - it's honestly less to do with the fact that it's providing healthcare to people. Yes, everyone should have healthcare available to them - Republicans aren't all super wealthy or "uneducated red necks". Me? I'm more of Libertarian than Dem or Republican. If anyone actually cared to listen to what they are really upset about - it's the fact that Americans are being forced by the government to have it. The fact that the government is overextending their reach and forcing decisions on citizens - THAT is the argument. The President extended the employer mandate to benefit businesses by a year to allow time for some of the kinks to get worked out. Why can't he/Dem's extend the same delay to the individual mandate? Give people the CHOICE to have the insurance don't force it on them. If you don't have insurance then you will be fined. Sure it's only like $100 now...but I would be willing to bet that in a few years when you still don't have as many people buying into Obamacare that they will raise those penalties to $300+.
It is also no secret that Obama AND the far left Dems (Like Old Man Reid) want to eventually drive our country to a single payer healthcare system. Our government is already corrupt as hell and that would only lead to making our healthcare system political and corrupt. Capitalism and free markets are what have made this country what it is now - the most powerful in the world. Having competition in any industry is what keeps costs down.
I really cannot stand seeing how terribly divided and downright hateful out country has become.

I'm a pretty conservative Republican and I strongly believe in the right to bear arms and most Republicans i know defend that right. I do not know as much about the ACA as I probably should, because I am not a political person and don't do as much research as I could/should so I'm not going to comment on it. But I don't believe that Republicans should be lumped together as gun slinging, assault rifle hoarding, anti Obama, screw the ACA type people.

@awc1986 and others about Obamacare:
