State of the Uterus (again)

Good gracious. Apparently I have a bionic uterus. I'm 6cm, 100% effaced, cervix has moved to anterior position (it was tipped WAY backwards before). Baby's fully engaged and between -1 and 0 station. The contractions that I swore were 10-20 min apart are showing up at around 8min apart on the monitors but I still can't feel them. I'm on bedrest til Saturday when I hit 37w and then I've been instructed to walk my legs off.

If I make it to my next appt (a week from today) they're going to sweep membranes and send me home with a hospital breastpump for nipple stimulation. They don't really want to try breaking waters or pitocin at this point since I'm still pretty early, but that needs to be balanced against the fact that I live an hour from the hospital and the road to get there is under massive construction as of today (it was more like an hour and a half to get there today, ugh) plus the fact that I'm already so dilated and effaced that things could go very, very quickly.

So. I'm parked in bed, writing a hospital bag list and an Ikea shopping list for Saturday and I'm going to walk all of Ikea and then the mall if necessary. :) Hopefully my water breaks on its own sometime soon thereafter. Ticking time bomb, party of one!

  • Wow! Enjoy your list making for the next few days and hve someone wait on you. I hope this isn't too personal, but what's the reason they're hoping to progress labor once you hit 37 weeks instead of just keeping you on bed rest and see what happens?

Looking forward to hearing some updates! (Hopefully not before Saturday :) )

Being on bedrest plus being later in pregnancy raises your risk of blood clots pretty significantly. Once I'm 37 weeks, I'm "full term" so there's no reason to keep me on bedrest. And the midwives are taking kind of a watchful waiting sort of stance but also trying to balance baby's well being against a solid week of contractions that have made me a zombie. IDK if I would have the energy to labor for real if these go on much more than another week.

  • Wow! Good luck, and I hope you can get lots of rest until Saturday!
  • Of goodness! Thanks for the update...sending hugs and positive vibes your way!
  • OMG, you are a brave woman walking around Ikea at 6 cm dilated. However, the draw of swedish meatballs can be an irresistible siren song, so I get it ;)

I just have to say I'm really happy that you have gotten to the point that you can be posting with excitement about the arrival of little one. Only months ago, you were posting about complications with your cervix (I feel bad calling it incompetent, like I will hurt it's feelings) but in a few days you have made it to full term!

Congrats! And I hope all goes smoothly for you these next few days. Hang in there!!!
Oh, my cervix is totally incompetent. Or I guess bipolar is a better word. I had problems with all four IUIs and my IVF due to scar tissue on it. They couldn't get it open enough to get the catheters in and I actually wound up passing out during one of the IUIs. Then it got too short and I was in danger of delivery way too early. Then there was concern a few weeks ago again about the fact that it was so scarred that it was going to be hard to get it to dilate for labor. Then it was totally fine and I was going to deliver a baby in three hours or less after painlessly getting to 7cm but I wound up having labor stop. Now it's chilling at 6cm even in spite of a week of contractions. Mind of its own, for SURE.

  • Hope your LO arrives promptly once you hit 37 weeks!  I am still not sure if it is awesome or scary that you don't feel the contractions.

That's where I am too. I was at 7cm/contracting every 2 minutes at the hospital last Thursday night and still barely feeling them. Now I can feel them (sort of) but only the very peaks of them when I'm laying down (like when I'm trying to sleep) Everyone keeps saying I'll "know" when things are different but I sure hope I know in enough time to get my ass to the hospital!

  • So exciting that you are getting so close. I don't envy you those contractions that have been going on for so long though; that makes it almost impossible to get any sleep.

I hope you make it to Saturday!!
