UPDATE: Possibly raw meat juice

Okay, so I was making dinner and didn't realize that dh had put LO's bib in the sink from last night. Well, I rinsed a container that had raw ground beef in it and the water ran over the bib. I specifically told dh that I needed to thoroughly needed to clean the bib, and I sat it aside. Dh didn't listen to me....surprise, surprise. Well, he put that bib on LO and I didn't realize it until AFTER dinner! I am so worried that he ate some of the juices that went on the bib! I am so neurotic, when it comes to raw meat. Am I overreacting? I am so tired of dh not listening! Anyone else have a man that doesn't listen?

UPDATE: Thank you all for responding and caring. He seems fine. Playing and everything. I guess we would have seen something if it made him ill.

  • Alright, maybe I am just in a shit mood...33 people have read/clicked on this post and no one has answered. I don't understand!

I tend to not over react in these situations. So, if it were me. I'd probably say it will be just fine. There isn't anything you can do now. Just watch for signs and if LO starts throwing up or something then take him to the doctor or ER.
If LO got any it's probably a small amount and hopefully won't harm him.

For the second question. My DH is more on the anal side with things like this.
Sorry your DH didn't listen. Hope your LO will be ok. I'm betting LO will be just fine!

  • I can't decide. I would be freaking our too. The good news is I think you'll know in six hours. He's probably fine because the higher the dose you get, the worse off you are.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

If it was chicken or pork, I'd probably be super paranoid and grossed out.  Beef?  Not so much.  I guess beef doesn't worry me as much.  I'm sorry you are scared though! It's not like baby was licking the bib, right?

No, not licking it...but he does grab food that falls into the rubber catch pocket. It's one of the rubber ones that has the wide pouch at the bottom.

  • I agree with the as long as it wasn't pork or chicken I wouldn't worry about it too much. Gross- you bet, life changing- meh, probably not.

My dh doesn't listen worth a toot, so I'm not much help in that department :)

  • If you were rinsing a container, it was probably really diluted. Then being on the bib is not really direct contact. So I think it's highly unlikely to do any harm. Don't worry Mama, these things happen.

My DH is a notoriously bad listener.
  • I'd be freaking out. Like I've said before, I'm too educated on foodborne illnesses. I'm also super anxious. So don't take my word for it.
  • Don't worry too much, I have done bacterial counts on meat products before, as long as your beef wasn't slimy with pseudomonas straight from the package, you will likely be fine. It isn't like he ate the raw meat, very little would have gotten in.

  • How is he doing this morning?

  • I hope you update us soon OP!

But I agree with most of the PPs, I wouldn't freak out about beef, a lot of people eat beef rare/raw and they are fine.  And it was likely just barely on there, so I don't think that would do much harm.  But I don't blame you for worrying, that's what us mommas do!

  • Yup, I eat my beef basically raw, so I wouldn't be too worried.  I would be way more grossed out over chicken or pork, but even then it was probably so diluted that he will be fine.  By now he would be sick.

He seems fine...playing and everything. I guess we would have already seen something if it made him ill. Thank you for asking!! :)

  • @reece0099 That good news! I'm sure he's fine now, I think it would have made him sick by now.
