Getting ahead of myself

So we have two spare bedrooms, one is used as an office, the other a home gym, so we need to get rid of one for the baby's room (it will probably be the office since I don't use my computer at home).  We have tons of junk to go through in both rooms though, which I'm not looking forward to, so in order to get motivated, I've started looking at nursery ideas.  Obviously it's way early to start actually doing anything to the room, but fun to think about.

So...what are your plans for nursery?  Color?  Theme?

Re: Getting ahead of myself

  • I am dreading cleaning out what will be the nursery. If its a boy we will be doing fire trucks. I have done a lot of looking and searching on Pinterest for a girl. I really like pink and gray, it is something she can grow into!

  • Even though H and I plan to find out the sex of our baby prior to birth, I still want to do a gender neutral room.  I love to read and I really want to get our kids into it too, so I'm thinking we'll go with an alphabet/reading theme.  We aren't planning to paint either (room is currently a sandy beige color), and we'll just add color with lots of accents, that way we can change it as they get older.

  • Ooh exciting! We're going to turn our office into the baby room. We (DH I suppose) is going to paint it "Misty Memories." I don't have a theme idea yet. I want the furniture and accessories to be off-whites generally with pops of colour with a lot of textures.

This is the colour we like: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-ca/paint-color/mistymemories#ce_s=misty

  • With my son we had cleared out our spare room and painted by the time I was like 8 weeks.  I also started gathering furniture haha.  This time around I'm not in as big of a hurry, still trying to figure out where to actually put everything to make room for 2.0....

Is anyone else just re-using their theme from baby #1? It is Forest Animals so gender neutral and when we move next month we are going to let DS pick out a new theme for his big boy room. I guess feel like it'd be more fun picking for a toddler who can give me feedback and excitement. I am wondering if DS will be attached to his theme than I am anticipating........

  • We are going to be team green so the baby's room will be gray. I searched FOREVER for the perfect bedding and decorations for DD, but I don't have the energy this time! I found some gray chevron sheets at Target so we will probably use those and get the same crib we have for DD, but in espresso. Although, if I can score something second hand, I'm not beyond getting that!

    @lalala8 I love that!
  • This is one of the reasons I need to convince H to find out the sex beforehand, ugh. I want to start on a room and be able to choose certain colors I want.  But anyway, I just know I don't want characters. I don't want a "baby" room, if that makes sense. I want a room that looks like a nursery, but that she/he will grow into as they age a bit.

I'm thinking BRIGHT colors. I love bright nurseries!!

    Something along those lines!!

  • Our current one is light green and brown. Josh's name is on the wall and they'll share the nursery so I guess we'll scoot his name over and add the next one's name :)

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • Honestly, I'm really hoping for a girl just so we don't have to update the nursery. (Please don't throw any rotten tomatoes at me.) We don't have any spare rooms right now, because I work a lot from home and am not excited about giving up my office. I can't even begin to think where I'll store all my equipment...

That being said, it will be fun to pick out some new decorations for this little one. :-)

We just purchased a 4 bedroom home.  I'm really excited to actually decorate a nursery.  Before now we rented and really couldn't do much.  I found out the gender for both of my previous pregnancies but I decided this time I'm going team green.

Right now we have our bedroom and the boys share a room (because they were used to it and didn't want to separate) on the second floor....there is also another room which is set up to be an office (that will become the nursery).  The downstairs bedroom is currently the play room but we were already talking about moving that to the finished basement and using the room for something else (like a sewing room for me)....that will probably become the office/ guest room.

  • @AllyTales I totally get what you mean. I don't want a theme either just something soft and soothing that baby will be able to grow into.

If we stay Team Green I will be doing a really soft orange and white. I saw a nursery done like that and I have loved it ever since. I will probably have my SIL make the bedding because I can't find a crib set any where.

If we find out or decide not to decorate until the baby comes that I will do a soft pink, white and grey for a girl or blue and white for a boy. Pretty traditional but that's ok.

    I've been looking, too. :)

We're going Team Green, so I'm thinking we'll paint the nursery a pale aqua. If it's a girl, we'll introduce some purple, kinda like this:

And if it's a boy, I'm think I might do some kind of sea-thing. Whales, crabs.. I'm kinda thinking an octopus theme might even be cute... :)

I am in love with that nursery! Beautiful!!!

We did a jungle theme with our first, a girl, and I am glad we did because our second was a boy and we didn't have an extra room at the time. We have since moved and we now have 3 bedrooms, our room, a boys' room and a girls' room- so baby #3 will have a crib in our room until he/she can sleep through the night and then eventually will end up moving in with either big bro or big sis. :)

  • My DH and I already have a gray color picked out that we want to paint the room. I would like to add pops of teal or yellow. We also both really loved the tree wall decals that are available so we are wanting to add one of those. I love everything hot pink, so if it's a girl, there will be lots of hot pink.

  • @allytales www.babybedding.com has a lot of really great theme-less bedding collections. We did some stuff from the pink and taupe damask collection for DD and it will definitely grow with her.
  • I also am not a fan of themes.  I just like picking colors and going from there.  Lulu's room is pink, blue and white.  I love it!  If this is our sticky baby, we'll do something similar.  We aren't sure if we will stay in the same apartment, which would mean sharing the room, or if we'll move to a 3 bedroom.  If they share we'll have to find stuff that works with Lulu's stuff.  And the new baby will get her dark wood crib and changing table.

  • I don't want to do crazy themes but I'm thinking owls for girl and elephants for boys.  These are both kinda my inspiration pictures of what I would like.

  • I don't have a theme picked and don't know if I will pick one. The room is already painted a light grey/beige that I painted last year with the intentions of it for a nursery colour. The room is completely empty except for my childhood dresser which I refinished last winter while TTC.

  • DD's room is currently a nice gn green, so likely baby will go there and we will transition DD to what has been our office/library/junk room. I asked her yesterday what color she would want to paint her room, and she said red. So that'll take some planning.

  • I kind of lucked out (totally didn't seem like it at the time) because my mom decided to move back to MO from NC in December and didn't bring anything that wouldn't fit in her car so I let her borrow our spare bedroom furniture and that room has been practically empty since then. Drove me crazy then but is nice now since we use the other room for office and workout stuff so I wouldn't have anywhere to put that furniture except the garage until we move to a bigger house.

We are going pretty neutral with the nursery with a simple jungle theme which is centered around a rocker my grandpa made me when I was little that looks like an elephant. I am pretty excited to pull that out and get to use it again!!
  • Am i the only one that doubts we will even do a nursery this time around? DD's was barely used! DD is currently using the spare bedroom as her play room.

  • I haven't even spent 5 minutes thinking about another nursery. You all are way ahead of me!

  • We'll have to convert our office and the thought gives me a mini panic attack! I just started to look for ideas yesterday and today. Right now I'm thinking something bright and cheery, but I have a ton of time to change my mind!
  • I started cleaning closets and rooms out before we even got pregnant! I am a little OCD like that. We are going to do a Peter Rabbit theme. Found such cute stuff and it's gender neutral. Plus I have a illustration from the illustrator to add to the room!
