Teaching LO to go down the stair

How has everyone taught their LOs to go down the stairs? We are trying to teach J to go on his stomach but he sees us go down normally and wants to do the same. Tips or tricks?

  • One person would hold her while the other person demonstrated going down backward on their stomach as she watched. She had to see it to believe it! We had to guide her feet several more times and help her make contact but then she eventually got it.

  • I haven't tried yet. What's wrong with going down on your butt? Is it any less safe than going down backwards on your stomach? At least on your butt you can see where your going.

At 20-week anatomy scan found IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction), and very low Amniotic Fluid.  Now, I'm High Risk and have weekly ultrasounds to monitor fluid and growth.  If baby runs out of room or is too growth restricted, they will deliver ASAP.  My current goal is to make it to 28 weeks!

  • My nieces and nephew learned to go down on their butt. Amir and Nene go down on their stomach similar you @latnprincess video. The surrender being he still uses his knees like emergency brakes.

The main reason we are avoiding him going down on his butt is because he uses his feet to push him to the next step and he keeps falling forward. I am sure it is find for some kids but for mine he keeps going head over feet.

Nolan recently mastered going up and now we're working on going down. We'll do it backwards for now. He's not really tall enough to use the railing and I can't figure out the logistics of going down on his butt. He seems to have picked up on how to go down backwards (belly).
