What do you want to be called, or what do your kids already call you?

Just curious FTMs, what do you want your baby to call you? STMs+ what do your little ones call you? Feel free to add on comments about your SO (esp if you're a same sex couple!) and any requests grandparents have made.

Edit: realized I didn't word my question to include all of you who already have kiddos! Sorry!

I like Mom or Mommy, not a fan of mama. I think Mommy/Daddy when they're young, even though I never thought I'd be a Mommy person. That's what we gravitated towards with our dogs though, "Go get Daddy!" etc.

As long as it's some form of "mom" I don't care. My kids go back and forth between mom, mommy, and mama. Yesterday my DD was calling me by my first name....the little stinker.

I think this is a hard one to pick. We started off calling each other Mommy and Daddy around DS. When he was able to talk, he said Mama and Dada. Now, he usually calls me Mommy, though I'm still Mama occasionally, usually when he first wakes up and is really tired. DH he almost always calls Dada.

I live in the South and I just melt when I hear little kids call their mom "Mama" in their little accents. However, both DH and I are transplants and aren't very "Southern", so I don't know if that will happen..

My parents are Momo (Maori, gaelic for grandma, comes out that way fir DD) and Java (a family nickname for my dad). I love that they have special meaning, and my parents love that those don't sound like 'old people' names.

We are from the south too so momma is pretty standard. That's what H refers to me and I like it.

DS started with "Mama" and "Dada" and now he's calling me "Mom" and "Mommy" and still calls DH "Dada" or by his first name (I think he picked it up from me, so now I make an effort to call DH "Daddy" in front of DS)

It changes between mom and mommy.
But I can say there's no way my kids will ever call me Kelsey! I believe that calling parents by their first names is disrespectful. I'm not your buddy, I'm your mom!

When DS was little he called me Mommy. Now I am usually Mom, but when he wakes up from a nightmare he still yells out "Mommy come!" Reminds me he is still my baby, even though he's 8.

MIL and FIL are Gran and Papa, which was their request. My dad is PePop because that was what DS called him when he was a baby and it just stuck. My dad's wife is MomMom, which is what all of her grandkids call her.

Off topic but somewhere along the line I started calling my mom "Mother" as an adult. Don't know why, but I suspect that I feel all classic literature when I do. There's something very Dickens about calling out "Mother." She's usually still just mom, but mother sneaks in when I'm trying to get her attention.

Mama or mom or mommy. I don't really care at all. My DD calls me a mixture of all three. At preschool she's supposed to call me ms. Samantha so she occasionally will at home and it makes me laugh.

Don't be surprised when your kids call you by your first name for a little while, there is a huge possibility that it can and will happen. One day they will realize that you have another name and the reaction they get from you when saying it will really entertain them if you make a big deal out of it.

When my DD started saying my first name I just told her that "yes that is my name but I'm mommy to you" and she eventually stopped. She did it yesterday because she just thought it was funny, she knows I'm mom and that's what she calls me when not being a total goofball.

DS calls me mama but I think it's just the easiest version for him to say at his age. I'm sure he'll eventually switch to mommy and then probably later it'll be mom. He does call DH daddy though.

@toothpastechica Five sets of grandparents! Your kids are so lucky! Mine will have two grandmas and that's it, and we don't even know how long DH's mom will be around.

Edit: Wow. That was such a Debbie Downer thing to say. I should have just stopped at "Your kids are so lucky!"

I think my partner and I will both be mommy. as they get older I'm sure it will just be mom but I don't think that when they are too young them calling us both mommy will confuse them on who they are talking to.

@Bree2109 I think you're right. My friends' daughter calls both him and his husband Daddy, and she's not the one who gets confused. They do! Having a child is pretty new to them, though, so I'm sure they'll get used to it soon.

I picked "mama" on there (because that's how I refer to myself in relation to my dogs, haha) but I really have no preference between mom, mommy, or mama. Mommy only to a certain point, though. I'm willing to venture a guess that my kids will start to think calling me mommy is uncool way before I get to that point, so I'm not worried about that.

I am so glad you feel this way. My dad got married to his second wife when I was 6 and she made me call her Mommy, even though I did not want to. If I had liked her I may have been okay with it, but she really never felt like a Mommy to me. As soon as they got divorced I went back to calling her by her name.

My 2-year-old calls me pretty much all of the above. He just recently picked up "Mother" (or mudder, really) which is pretty adorable.

This is why H and I refer to each other as momma and daddy so she calls us that too.

Right now DD calls me Mama and I love it, but I know that will change

I guess Mom? Not a big deal for me, as long as it's not my first name!

My SIL and her partner did that but then they'd get mixed up as their kids got older. So they now go by Mom and Mama.

Any other southerners or southern residents or anyone requiring Ma'am and Sir? I'm originally from CO but that's one southern tradition that I'm def. enforcing! Also, very close friends' parents are "miss (insert first name)" and "mr. (Insert first name)"

We say yes ma'am and yes sir. It's definitely something we will be teaching.

I'm not at ALL southern, but I say "yes, ma'am," and "yes, sir." It's just good manners. Hoping my kids will pick up on it just because DH an I both do it, but if not, they will be taught!
All my friends at church are really big on the "Miss/Mr. First Name" thing, until the adult tells them it's ok to call them something else. It's not a big deal to me, but I'll probably do it because it's a big deal to others and I don't want my kids to be considered rude. For some kids who we're really close to, it's been tough to just get them to call me Christy and drop the Miss!

DH already calls me ma/mommy and i call him daddy. So our kids may never know our real names. Because out families call us by nicknames. My mom will be grandma, so will my grandmother. My dad i guess grandpa; his dad pop pop, stepmom bobci (she's polish), his mom and her fiance abuelita and buelito (theyre spanish.). With my sisters ex wife her son called my sis mama lynn. I guess when she and my SIL get married they'll just be mommy and mommy.

I think I prefer "Mommy", but I also kinda like Mama. We'll see. I made up a name for my Grandpa, so if my kids are anything like that, I will have little say in the matter.

I'm not in the south but I also love hearing mama even on older kids.

My two year old uses mom, mommy, and mama. I find mama very sweet and I'm a little sad she's growing out of it.

Whichever of the above they embrace really. I'm 22 and still call my mom mommy. I sometimes call her mother. It's up to the kid. Long as they don't call me Deidre.
