Working moms: sick days?

I'm wondering what the average number of sick days people take for sick children is. I am home today with Robert and we are going to a doctor's appt for his goopy red eye, and I am fearing this is the first of many days he will be sick this year. My husband may be able to do some of them, but I will probably end up having to do most of them. Not to mention the days or part days I will have to take for my OB appts.

  • I take my sick days when Charlie is sick and MH is lucky enough to have time too so we switch off.

Even a minor event in the life of a child is an event of that child's world and thus a world event.

  • Last year (last academic year, that's how we roll here) it was about 5 for me, and DH took a few, too.  My sick leave is more generous, so I tend to take more- already took 2 this year.  He just goes to work and complains endlessly.

  • Hmm I took probably 5 or 6 last year; in general Tucker is healthy but anytime he had even just a runny nose last year he wasn't allowed to go to his daycare (even without a fever).  This year he has a nanny so that isn't really a problem, except on days like today where SHE is sick so I'm home with him.  I try to make all my appointments after work, which so far has worked out well but I know there will be some like the GD tests that I will need to take a half day of work.  All you can do is just take the time and hope for the best.  It is severely looked down on in my school to miss work for any reason whatsoever, but what else am I gonna do? I try not to worry about it.

I have been lucky and J has only had to stay home about 2 or 3 times this past year, and once was for Hand/Foot/Mouth.  Which also was the only time I've brought her to the doctor other than well-baby visits.  I've only been called to pick her up once!  *knock on wood*

I send her all the time with a stuffy/runny nose though... I'm that mom.

ETA:  Seriously, my TB is acting up.  It didn't post what I typed. I said it's impossible not to send your kid stopped up because it seems like they stay that way.  All of B's classmates are constantly dripping.  Yuck.

Last year, I missed at least a day of work a month for ear infections.  I hope we'll avoid that this year since he has tubes.  Fortunately, my boss that didn't have kids quit and my current boss has two, one of which is allergic to everything and constantly sick, so he understands.  Whoa, holy run-on sentence.

  • One in a year. Her sicknesses have worked out with days off

  • I think I've left early twice to pick her up.  And missed one full day.   TheBoy stayed home once too I believe.

I'm fairly fortunate in that I can work from home if need be, so I usually get up early work for a few hours before she's awake and then work during her nap(s).   It means I can generally only miss a half day of work for a full day home.
