TTC After a Loss

How do I count cycle days after MC?

Hey everyone, I had a MC last month... It started 9/8 (I was 5 weeks) and I bleed until 9/20. It was heavy flow the entire time, even through the end. My BETA on 9/9 was 437 and two days later it was 297. How do I count cycle days after a MC? I've read online to count same as regular AF but it seems weird since my flow was heavy pretty much the whole time. We won't be TTC until next cycle but we are going on vacation soon and I'm trying to figure out when I could expect AF although I know it is hard to predict after MC. Thanks Ladies :)

Re: How do I count cycle days after MC?

  • I believe you count the first day you started to MC as CD1. At least that is what I did

  • I'd count the first day you had bleeding as CD1, but that may not help you predict when your next period will be. You just don't know what your cycles will do.

  • Normally you count the day you start bleeding as CD1. That being said, cycles can be so wonky after a m/c that it will be really hard to figure out when AF will be arriving.

I'm sorry for your loss and welcome to the board.

It's different for everyone. You really don't know what your body will do. FWIW, though, my cycles jumped right back to normal. I had about a two week cycle after my surgery, so I guess I just didn't ovulate and my cycle was short. Since then, I've had three 28-30 day cycles and have ovulated on CD 17 all three cycles. My cycles may actually be more regular now than before, but that's definitely not everyone's experience.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. Welcome to the board.

I had a MMC and had to have a D&C, then an ectopic and had surgery for ruptured tube. Both times, I counted day of procedure as CD 1. For me, my 1st period came at 26 days post D&C (pre-loss cycle was always 28 days) and the 2nd time around came at 31 days. I found both 1st periods to be a bit heavier the 1st day and then lighter than normal. Seems like most experience a new "normal" after a loss. Hope your cycles settle quickly and you can move forward!

This was actually very similar to me as well. My cycle was a little wonky prior to my m/c and became a little more regular and predictable afterwards. This is my 6th cycle since m/c and I have consistently had 29-30 day cycles, ovulating on CD 18, except for last cycle. AF arrived 4 days early and I think I ovulated early. So I think I'm going back to normal, which means back to wonky.

    I'm sorry for your loss.

I had a natural m/c at 6 weeks and my cycle was pretty much the same, maybe a day or two longer.
