Breastfeeding, no period and TTC soon!

Hi ladies-

 

Our DD is 6 months old.  We are seriously considering TTC again soon though I am still nursing and my period has still not returned.  I realize you can still ovulate while nursing, however, I have tried the ovulation predictors for the last month or so and none say I am ovulating.  I have started to supplement, mostly because I can't keep up with what she takes in, but don't want to wean her just yet.  Anyone in a similar boat?

    Yep that's us. Been trying for a while or at least not preventing. Still breastfeeding, no ovulating, no cycle. We really would like to be pregnant again, but i'm not willing to wean Miles. So not sure what to do, i guess just time is what it will take. Never thought I'd be so impatient for my period to come back lol.

    You can look into charting your cycles instead of buying the OPK strips. The book Taking Charge of Your Fertility is really good. We use charting for both preventing a pregnancy and TTC.

    I will be in the same boat in not too long, we want to start TTC in January. I want to EBF until March (LO's first bday). I'm trying to find out how can I do both? Im producing a little bit more than my LO drinks each day, and no period in sight. my grandmother had 10 kids all close together, even had 2 babies in the same year (jan & dec) and breastfed as they didn't have formula available. So I'm like what's the secret?

    My dr said once LO sleeps more than 6 hours at night consecutively and starts eating solids regularly, ovulation will be more likely to occur. I am not trying, so I take the mini pill just in case!!!

    My first PP period with my oldest was at 11.5 months. We conceived at 12.5 mo. We had to wean at 15mo due to lack of supply and  I was put on pelvic rest by my OB. Some women need to fully wean before getting a period. My sister is still not getting a regular cycle and her son is 24 mo.

    My two boys are getting a surprise May 2015!

    I've read ovulation starts up again when baby stop nursing at night. (although by some miracle dd has sltn at 8 weeks and still no period for me). I would also recommend www.fertilityfriend.com to chart, and if you want to use ovulation strips buy them on amazon, WAY cheaper!
