mmgkms (who's number what the only one of my LB's #s I had in my phone -- doh!) many of you already know that we welcomed our daughter, Aisling Ann into the world  on October 2nd!  Before i delve into the AWing, i wanted to thank all of you so much for your congratulations and well wishes!  I only had a second to check out the board and all of your love and support brought a smile to my face!

Short Version (the quick and dirty birth story):
My water broke at 3:30AM on Wednesday morning and due to being breech she was delivered via c-section (a week before my scheduled c-section) at 8:21AM.  Despite multiple u/s that suggested she might weigh 9+ lbs, she came out weighing only 7lbs 12oz and 20 1/4 inches long.

Long Version (a more detailed version where I attempt to keep you engaged with bad humor and mild cursing):
Let me start off by saying that this little girl has some impeccable timing.  My mom, sister, DH and had been planning on going to the UK the last week in September to celebrate my mom's 60th and attend the Steelers/Vikings game in London.  However I got pregnant (yay!) so DH and I were unable to go.  My mom and sister had both been anxiety ridden for weeks that they would be gone when I went into labor.  I assured them that I was nowhere close to labor (hadn't dropped, wasn't dilated or effaced, etc.), and they needed to go and have a good time.  So off they went and just as suspected, I didn't go into labor and we picked them up on Tuesday evening before heading to our last dr. appointment before our scheduled c-section on October 9th. My mom lives about an hour away and went home.  My sister lives about 5 hours away and therefore planned to spend the night with us before heading home Wednesday morning.   At our appt. the dr. asked if I even wanted to bother with the exam, but since my pants were already off I thought, "ehh, what the hell, I'm curious."  As suspected, there was pretty much nothing going on down there -- dilated barely a centimeter.  We went home, spent some time with my sister before we all headed to bed.  As my sister said goodnight to us she leaned down to my belly and joked "if you're going to come early, you better come tonight"  We laughed about it and went up to bed.

After having a terrible time getting comfortable, I finally fell asleep around midnight.  At 3:30 I got up to pee, amazed that I had been asleep so long.  I was in pain because my bladder was so full and made such a spectacle getting out of bed that I woke up DH.  After going to the bathroom I laid back down and immediately felt a gush of fluid.  After exclaiming that I thought my water had just broken, DH and I jumped out of bed and tried to quickly get a bag packed (PSA -- dont wait until the last minute folks).  I took a quick shower, knowing I'd be without one for a few days, and put on some fresh makeup (I wasn't kidding about looking good in those first photos :) )  Meanwhile. I was leaking fluid everywhere and could only manage to find the world's smallest pad which did pretty much nothing.  After frantically throwing together a hospital bag, we left the house about 4am and were in a room in L&D by 4:15.

They hooked me up to monitor contractions, baby's hb and my pulse.  Since I wasn't contracting and the baby wasn't in distress, we were told we've have to wait a bit until an operating room and one of my dr.s was available to deliver.  No big deal except
I was really disgusted and miserable by the fact that I' was sitting in a puddle of amniotic fluid (they changed my bed pad for me 4-5 times -- it was so fucking gross) and was panicking about work, trying to email instructions to colleagues and to set my out of office message from my phone which, of course, kept making my heart race and setting off the pulse monitor.

Finally about 8AM they began to prep us for the c-section.  The spinal didn't hurt but after I went numb I kept having the unsettling feeling that my legs and feet were crooked which made me feel completely claustrophobic. By 8:15AM they made the first incision, by 8:19AM they made the incision in my uterus and by 8:21AM DH watched as they pulled her, ass first, out of my cozy womb.  She screamed her face off immediately and DH was invited to come over to the prep station to meet her and cut her cord. They began to sew me up and DH eventually brought her over so i could say hello.  Both sat next to me until I was finished.  As they put my insides back in me, I started to feel woozy and nauseous but they put some awesome drugs into my IV which made things a lot better pretty quickly.  When they were done we were all wheeled to recovery for the next hour or so where I was able to hold her and try to breastfeed.  We were in our regular room by 11AM and have been enjoying our time together as a family of three ever since.

Recovery has been fairly smooth.  The first 12 hours I wasn't allowed out of bed, but they had me up, moving and peeing on my own by 8:30 that evening.  Each day since has been a little easier.  Today i finally got my bandage removed and was able to take a shower.  I am in love with the hospital gowns and the mesh undies -- seriously, they're awesome and make breastfeeding, going to the bathroom, etc.so easy.

My sister has been a super star -- taking care of our kitties and house at night and giving us a chance to rest and some appreciated company during the day.  My mom, DH's parents and sisters also stop by for a little while each day, just to say hello.

Aisling is absolutely gorgeous (of course we're biased but strangers and hospital staff continue feed our egos but commenting about how cute she is).  She has a perfect round head, a decent amount of dark blonde hair and the most amazing lips (compliments of her dad!).  She latches and sucks like a champ, poops like superstar and hasn't been too fussy except when she's hungry.  Here are a few pics for your enjoyment!
