Worst Names Suggested By Friends/Family

I'm interested to know the worst names your family & friends have suggested to you all.

Here are mine:
1) Roland. Not only do I really dislike this name, but apparently it comes from a Steven King book. If I were going to name my kid based on a book, it wouldn't be Steven King.

2) Charles. This is my great-grandfather's name, and no one liked him. I will only name my child for family members that are warmly remembered.

I hope you all have some good ones!

Well, Roland was a character in King's main series, but that is hardly the origin of that name.

My kids at school all want me to name the kid after them.  Heck to the no!
Yes, I know the name dates back before Steven King was writing books. It's just where this family member got his inspiration for the name.

  • Yep heads up don't get offended peeps! No suggestions really. Hubby is suggesting ok names, today he mentioned Quentin and I love it, but it's my bff's third boys name and we talk way too much so it would be confusing for me so I had to veto =( So far we haven't shared our own list so it hasn't come up yet with family.

  • I love this I just hope nobody has a LO with one of these names and gets their feelings hurt.

My BIL called me to suggest Sandrine, pronounced San-dreen. Um, no.

Oh, I hope not, too. We all know that we have different styles. I just found it funny to have a family member really push for a name and ask "why didn't you like my suggestion?" To which I answer, because I'm the momma and DH is the dad, so we get to name the kid. Period.

  • My DH likes Killian for a boys name. I refuse to name my child the same name as an alcoholic beverage. Our children were planned, not some drunken mistake. I am sure at least a few people might think otherwise with that kind of name.

  • The father of my youngest EX WIFE suggested Dream. I told her to keep your comments to herself and that she played no role. Gosh, I hate that woman!!
  • None of the names themselves that my MIL suggested were bad... some I actually quite like, but cousin's of mine have names their children them, and I want something that isn't already used as well.... My MIL doesn't understand that!!!  She said well more then one cousin can have the same name.... Yes, they can, but it's not what I want!  And if she liked those names so much, she should have named HER kids them!

  • The bad names we have had suggested have all been girls names.  Someone suggested we name her after my Grandmother.  I loved my grandmother, but not even she went by her name, Ermgard.

When I was pregnant with DS, we were team green like now.  A friend of ours wanted us to name our son after him, Nicholas.  I said, "What if we have a girl?"  His response?  "Nicola"  Uh, no.

  • My FIL has been insistent on Beauregard since they found out we were pregnant the first time. My MIL suggested Arthur or that we name a girl Camille after her (I don't even like the woman). My parents don't suggest anything because they know we don't care, lol.

  • Stepmother-in-law has kept a list of her favorite baby name ideas saved in her phone and reads it off at every holiday (even though no one in the family has ever been pregnant until now). Her absolute favorite is "Sterling". Not gonna happen.
  • Oh, she also likes the name Michaela for a girl… It isn't that bad but it's because she loves Dr. Quinn!

  • These are great- in an entertainment only way. AprilMay9 I'm holding out with you!! And I'm glad, I'm not looking forward to turning down horrible name suggestions!
  • My mom and I don't have the same taste in names. I like a mixture of classic or granola names, and she likes much newer age ones, particularly if they're unisex.... I don't dislike her suggestions, they're nice, I just would't use them.
I remember she suggested Samara a lot. DH really liked it, but I hate the NN Sam on a girl.

  • @myschlove, personally, I think Michaela is a great name ;) not that I'm biased or anything lol

  • Oh my grandmother suggested Haley...pronounced like Halle. The name isn't bad but it's definitely not one we would use. She would not let the spelling go though, she also keeps pushing Logan for a boy but a cousin in my dads side has a son named Logan. Her logic is...it's not on her side so it doesn't matter. :-/

    Tate is ridiculously popular here.

My mil wanted me to name my DS Landon... Which is a great name... But our last name is Landman...
    Landon Landman...

    No

Hahaha, similar story here... My nephew was almost named that - our last name is Lindemann.
  • My DH wants to name our child after his grandfather who died 20 years ago, Donald. I hate it! Not gonna happen.
  • Luckily, no one has suggested names to us yet, but I have a brother who is 14 years younger than me. When my mom was pregnant my parents were dead set on naming him Baxter. I used to seriously cry about it, because I was so embarrassed for my younger brother to have a dogs name. All the rest of my siblings have really traditional names: Elizabeth, Allison and Jonathan...and Baxter would have sounded awful with that. Luckily they changed their mind at the last minute to Ryan.

My mom also suggested Oliver to me last pregnancy, which I think is a cute name, but more of a dog name as well.

I have a cousin who named her child this. Then everyone was like "after the beer??" and yes, yes it was. I personally don't like it but, I also have DH trying to convince me Jamison is a great name (after the whisky!)

  • Oh I agree, it's just that she'd be named after Dr Quinn :)

  • I have a strange last name - Pankau. We've had many suggestions that are awful! My mom suggested Peter Pankau -ack :( and my dad suggested Henry Pankau - Hank for short so he could call him Hanky Panky! Eek! I can't wait for all the suggestions from my high school students (I'm a teacher) after I tell them!

I love the name "Jameson" but I just had to get over it because the stupid people who made the whiskey stole my baby name :(

I like the idea of the name but when my DH drinks that's about all he drinks so it's all I think of lol!

  • I have everyone beat. My mil wanted me to name my 3 year old and this one after their daddy. Enoch (e-nick) Hubert. She also suggested Hubert Enoch.

She never even called him by his given name ( he has always been Bert). It has to be one of the most hateful names you can give a child. We used to tease him about it all the time when we were kids and now she wants me to torture my own children. Thanks but no thanks crazy!

  • I have already told my mom our names and yet she suggests a new name everyday! I'm like hello we are done! And my dad doesn't even get to have an opinion because he wanted to name me Laurel Lawrence.
