Good News/Bad News Today

Good news...since BD is retired military and disabled...I qualify for a free doula at my birth through a non-profit.

Bad news...I don't qualify for pro bono legal aide through another non profit :( I guess I'd have to be living in a cardboard box before I would qualify. Can't believe I don't with my income, health expenses, and being PG.

None the less, emailed an attorney who will HOPEFULLY give me a consult. Plan on spending some more time this weekend tracking down family law attorneys to get a consult from. REALLY need one who is familiar with navigating the military aspect of things. Not planning on retaining counsel, but just need some basic questions answered.

Anyway, after hearing from you guys, talking to friends/family, and doing a tiny start of research...I feel good about custody for the first year. Still need to figure out HOW and WHAT I should ask for....but feel pretty confident she'll stay with me and not have overnights or be taken out of state :)

Re: Good News/Bad News Today

  • There are some lawyers who will take a pro bono case depending on your situation, I wouldn't try for legal aid.  My lawyers are willing to take my case pro bono if it ever actually becomes a case in court (no word from BD in 2 1/2 mo), but I also work with them which is why I have more than just one.  GOOD LUCK to you! Researching can be quite a chore but it is TOTALLY worth it.

Much love and good vibes sent your way!

  • awesome news about the doula!

too bad about the pro bono...
Have you checked with your state? some states have free custody/child support help through the department of economic security

  • Thanks guys. I emailed a few attorneys for consults, but nothing yet. A friend also suggested checking into the law programs at colleges. We have quite a few in my area, so I will do that too. Thanks for the idea on dept of economic security! Will look into that also.
