I have never been on a plane and I felt a a ting of jealousy of all of you that travel often.

My vehicle inspection expired in Sept. we don't have $400 to fix what it needs to pass inspection and I'm stressed out worrying about it.

I'm irrationally upset at the bedside manner and lack of compassion and tools of a state ranked hospital my mom is in right now. I'm sorry but my father should NOT have to bring in her shower chair because a hospital that does rehab for paraplegics does not have the proper tools for her to use the bathroom. They also didn't take the proper measures to prevent pneumonia after surgery and now she has it. When my dad complained (there are many issues besides the ones I stated) he set up a meeting the person didn't even write anything and completely disregarded all of my dad's concerns.

this was more a vent than an FFFC sorry..but I'm just angry.

What precautions did they not take to prevent a pneumonia?

They didn't give her the device 'incentive spirometer' I believe that's the name of it until after 4 days and realizing her lung had collapsed and she developed pneumonia. I may be wrong but I feel as though that's pretty important to have after any surgery especially for someone who can not get out of bed and walk around. Maybe someone who has more experience in this can explain it better to me.

That's pretty bad. She could have still developed post op pneumonia even while using the IS, it happens every day, but that's a big oops. I don't work in the hospital now, but I thought this was usually in the nursing task list several times per shift at first? So sorry you're going through this:(

Roxy - I have the same problem. I have no idea how I will get two kids out to a freezing cold car in the middle of winter. Our garage is detached, and distanced from our house.
My uneducated guess would be leave M in the car seat, buckled in near the door while you get C buckled in, then run back in for her. That, or if C is walking confidently, grab hold of his hand and make a "game" out of running to the garage quickly...I'm sure you'll figure it out!

Where I go does a long one and it's just awkward for me. I saw a guy once and he lifted my head to rub my neck and I started to sit up because I thought he was done. When he realized that he said "shhhhh, just relax" in a whisper. It creeped me out. I just don't like to be rubbed!

Last Friday I was on call for the hospital and got called in around midnight. I was so tired and I knew DD would be up at 5 am. My call didn't end until 7 am. I told DH that the ER was crazy and they needed me all night, but I really found a nice comfy stretcher to sleep on all night until 7 am. It was glorious.
    That sounds glorious!!

  • oh! I have a new one.
I bought a Libertarian 'mascot' car decal.  But I haven't put it up on my car yet, because I don't want to deal with the stupdi backlash at work.

Higher Ed is ALL ABOUT social justice and being inclusive... as long as you're liberal

    Stuck in quote box.

I KNOW.  I loved so many of my former coworkers, but it was amazing how downright mean and intolerant they could be when they didn't realize that "one amongst them" didn't agree with everything they thought.  Some of the stuff they said...wow, intolerant and hateful.  Kinda self-perpetuating, too, because they surrounded themselves with like-minded people...anywho.

FFFC:  I am leery of identifying as Libertarian because they're kind of synonymous with crazypants among my cadre.  Even though I am kinda Libertarian.  And I know that the association with crazypants isn't really fair.

While not having an incentive spirometer certainly could lead to atelectasis (base of lung collapse), it wouldn't cause her to get a pneumonia.  Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs and she would have to have caught a virus or bacteria to have that.

Incentive spirometer is super important after surgery, but she should also have been instructed to do deep breathing on her own, even if she didn't have the actual device.

I'm sorry she is dealing with this.  I don't mean to be snarky at all but misinformation about health related things is a pet peeve of mine.  :)
I didn't take it as snarky, I think a combination of things going on is really piling on our frustration and I do realize this could of happened even with the device, my mom was trying to do deep breathing and coughing on her own just from previous experience after surgery but they weren't instructing her to do this, there's no reason why didn't give her the device. I just expected more out of this hospital.

I totally get this.  I blame the super extreme tea partiers that branched off of Ron Paul's libertarian presidential runs for this image.
Also, a lot of Libertarians people around here encounter are basically only vocal about legalizing marijuana.  Not exactly a strong, inclusive, far-reaching platform.

  • My winter routine last year: Infant bucket seat with showercap thingie covering her face. Eric wearing coat/hat and me either carrying him or him walking. Carry bucket seat in other hand. Depending on how cold, either put bucket seat on ground while I totally get Eric in (her whole face is covered), or if it is too cold for that, put her seat on the empty back seat (she is in middle, he is on passenger side), go put him in completely, come back and move her into position.

I think dd's eyes changed colors three days ago and I'm a bit sad. They do look like my eye color though. (Blue green)

I really hope me venting about DH and I both being furloughed in a few posts (but not creating my own AWy posts). does not constitute vying for the pain Olympics. If it does, I've misjudged the supportiveness of this board.

  • I have no BFing support IRL. when people ask me if I'm still nursing I say no, for the sake of not having to deal with the looks of digust or 20 questions about why I'm still nursing or when I plan on weaning
I haven't read to the end, but I wanted to let you know that there's drop-in breastfeeding group in Southbridge, run by a friend of mine. You should check it out!

I feel like I'm lucky that I have a small baby without hair, because I think people assume she's younger than she is and don't give me any flack for still nursing her when I'm out in public...

  • My ex BFF just posted pictures on FB of shaving her daughter's head.  Like razor blade shaving her head not just clippers shaving her head and she said that she did it because of tradition.  You could clearly see the baby's head was irritated from the shaving!  I so wanted to say something but we are just now to the point where we can handle seeing each other's stuff in our feeds.  I decided that wouldn't be a good idea.  What kind of fucking tradition has you "bic" a baby's head?

I remember it being discussed on the board. I think It is more common in Hispanic cultures (I may not remember correctly). Supposed to make the hair come back in nice and think.

  • ***took out the block quotes because they are annoying on mobile*** I'm by no means on a high house. Actually, I feel pretty beat down now (not by your comment, but in general). Yes, maybe I'm a little oversensitive right now, but I think that's reasonable. I've never made it about my situation being worse than anyone else's. Just that the situation as a whole sucks. I'll be the 1st to admit that we are better off than some (people with no savings, people already behind in their mortgages etc). I took your comment to heart thinking that I was annoying people by talking about it (and if that was the case, feeling unsupported). I've always liked you @loislayn23, so maybe that's why I took it personally, thinking you were referring to me.
