Too long for bassinet

My lo has been sleeping in the sleeper/bassinet part of the pack n play but he's getting too long for it, every time I try and put him in the flat part of the pack n play after a few min he starts kicking around and moving a bunch and wakes himself up. I feel like its much flatter/firmer and bigger than the sleeper place he's been sleeping so cozy in. Any advice that worked for you ladies to help him adapt ??

Re: Too long for bassinet

  • Yes, it better that way but not great he still wiggles a bunch

  • I have the same problem. My LO has reflux so I elevate her, I think adding the wedge (folded up blankets) makes a little more room but she keeps getting longer! Idk what to do, I don't think she is ready for the crib yet. I think she likes that she can see me
  • No advice here as we are in the same situation - LO has been sleeping in the mapper part of the PNP, but I think she's going to be too long for it very soon. I've been avoiding transitioning her to the regular flat part of the PNP or to her crib because she sleeps so well now, and I don't want to mess with it! She also doesn't really like to be swaddled, but I might have to start so she feels cozier on the bigger flat surface.

The "mattress" on the pnp is so hard! We didnt get one with the napper/bassinet part, so LO has been in the big part since she was born. She hated it at first and DH was convinced it was because the mattress was so hard and uncomfortable. Turned out that he was right!

What we ended up doing was putting a small blanket folded in half between the pnp mattress and the waterproof cover and then put the sheet on. It doesn't make it super soft or squishy, so it's not a safety hazard, but it's given it just enough cushion that she will sleep on it.

I also elevated one end of the pnp slightly since she's gotten a cold to keep her at an incline. She's been sleeping better than ever!

We also swaddle her, but mostly because she wakes herself up with her crazy arms if we don't.

    Edit: stupid autocorrect

  • My LO never slept well in the PNP, which is what we had her in while she was in our room. At 2 weeks I didn't think she was ready for the crib but tried it one night and she slept great and has been in there ever since. I think it's much softer than that hard PNP surface.
In hindsight I think it was more mommy wasn't ready for the crib than LO.
  • No advice here. This is happening to us too with the Arm's Reach CoSleeper. She does this thing now where she turns herself horizontally and her legs are hanging onto our bed. I am not sure how she accomplishes this, as she is swaddled.

I am definitely not ready to move her. I want to sleep next to her still. I am considering putting her in her crib and moving into the nursery with her. I can sleep on the sofa in there. Or, if DH doesn't like that, maybe the 3 of us will all sleep together on the floor-lol.

  • Yep, that "must have" bassinet feature didn't last long for us either. What a disappointment! We switched to using a Rock N Play and he sleeps better and fits better in that. Maybe in your PnP if you have him swaddled and also put rolled up receiving blankets at his sides so he can't move around much that might help. GL
Feeling like a big bloated hormonal whale of a tale. It's awesome.
  • We have this same issue. LO isnt too long yet but she is coming close. When we were at the hospital, they took a stiff receiving blanket and rolled up both sides and put her in the middle, kind of like putting her in the middle of a taco shell. It kept her from rolling, but the nurse said it has to be a stiff blanket, to assure it wont unroll from her moving.
