I need a pep talk...or swift kick in the behind

I cannot seem to get on the exercise bandwagon. I've never been an avid exerciser. I'm really trying to because I know it's good for me and baby, but it seems like I can't manage to motivate myself to do it more than twice a week. I'm being whiney, I know I just need to do it I just need some motivation or new perspective. So tell me why this exercise is so good for me. And go! :)

Re: I need a pep talk...or swift kick in the behind

  • DH and I have been walking at least 4 times a week , since it's been cooler ( well where I live), I find it easier walking outside then being stuck in a gym !! .try doing that I'm still trying to motivate myself to do prenatal yoga but haven't got all that energy yet !

  • I walk a half hour everyday and do prenatal once a week. Can you work walking into your daily schedule? I walk to work or on lunch if I drove. If it's on lunch I go with friends and it makes it easier and lightens everyone's mood. As for prenatal yoga I go to class once a week but do some if the stretches at night and it really helps with any soreness I have through the day. You could try some for like 15 mins before bed to help with headaches or pain. Good luck- it's waay easier if you try and sneak it in:)
  • They say it reduces stretch marks and makes you sleep better. Some say faster easier labor. I try to remember all when I need motivation.

This was a finding of the MD who wrote Exercising Throughout Your Pregnancy (earlier delivery--but not too early!--and shorter labor). It is one of my good motivators. I also focus on exercises I enjoy.

  • Me too, we were going for walks but we live in a neighborhood right off of the hwy and the interstate so we can walk as far as 3 blocks length and then we are out of space. Maybe I can get dh to go for a drive to find somewhere to walk a few times a week. Riverside or anything!
  • All I have the energy for is a walk with my husband and our dog.  Try to do an activity with someone else so it seems more "social" than "exercise".
  • Netflix on my iPad and my treadmill are the only thing that keep me going! It's to damn hot outside for me! I like the time alone with my reruns!!!
  • I have thought about it... but that is usually where it ends. A nice walk sounds good, but honestly I work full time, have a toddler at a tough age, and I am taking 2 classes.I am just tired!

    Anniversary
  • I used to walk daily but was so sick and tired when I got pregnant that I didn't do it anymore. I drive 65 minutes to work one way so by the time I get home, eat, and shower it's time for bed! And I'm still sick off and on, always tired, and dealing with back and hip pain!

    I think that's all the excuses I have! :p

  • A hospital nearby has a prenatal water aerobics class that I just signed up for. Spending money for the monthly dues actually helps motivate me so I don't feel like I'm wasting it. Plus I'm new to the area and hoping to meet other future moms.

I need this on a post it note.

I know what you mean. It's easier to post it here than to make myself remember it all the time. But I'm trying. :)
  • I haven't moved an inch. I really need to start too. As soon as I can hold down my cookies!
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I just go for short walks that are enjoyable. About 45 mins about three days per week. I actually feel the need to walk though. My body needs it! And now it's something my baby and I do together. I will talk to my bump and say are you ready for our walk? I'll bring a bottle of water and my ear phones and off we go. I write my walks into my schedule so I don't forget. It's so worth the health benefits to your baby, and also if you eat too much ice cream like me :) Good luck!

  • Honestly, I haven't done anything. I work full-time, have a new house and a toddler. Plus my DH acts like a child sometimes. Frankly I can barely keep my eyes open past 8pm let alone think of doing more. Pass. :(

  • i walk at least 2 miles 3 times a week. i know it isn't much but it's way more than i would normally do. i also like to think i get a mini workout because i live on the 3rd floor of my apt and go up and down several times a day with my dog.
last time after i finished walking i was absolutely craving a powdered jelly doughnut and i went to get one without changing my workout clothes.  needless to say, a guy in there loudcapped me for buying doughnuts after working out! hilarious!
