I'm just being sensitive I think. I posted on another board about DD and deciding to send her to preschool, and mentioned that we hadn't done preschool with the boys. (We couldn't afford it with the boys but through DH getting promotions over the years, we can now for DD)

I did get some very helpful replies, and things to think about. That part was great! I'd mentioned that we were barely making bills, but I wasn't working because DH was in a development program that made us move each year for two years in a row, and any job I would get would barely cover daycare. Some comments were that it was "unfair" that my boys didn't get to go to preschool, or that "you could've afforded it even if you didn't think you could have" and then someone asked if I was working. (thats when I explained DH's job situation)

Wah the bump hurt my feelings LOL. Time to go sit in the corner and cry. Oh, and I DID enroll her today. I think she will enjoy herself. Just needed to get that out, sorry if its stupid.

@shanado - it was. I'm not at all trying to blast another board which is why I didn't mention it in my first thread. And truly, I'm having a hard time with this transition, so the mom guilt was raging even before I got some of those comments.

I'm in a different financial situation now then 13 years ago when I had Ds. There's so much more I can do now for Sophia than I could do for Dom.

I don't feel guilty because no matter what, I still did the best I could for him with the best intentions. That's what matters.

Around here, you have to pay for public preschool, I think. Our DCP offers preschool, so the girls will probably be going there.

In my county they offer it for children in the special end program but everyone else is on their own until kindergarten (half day).

Around here only children who receive special education services go to public school for preschool. Everyone else pays tuition, though there are grants and scholarships to help families in need.

My mom was a SAHM and I did not go to preschool. Neither did my brother. My family could not afford it. We both went to public schools.

I have a JD. My brother has a PhD. We were both valedictorians in high school. It is not the end of the world to not attend preschool.

In my district 4K is only for low income children and other parents use private preschool. Our LO goes to a church based daycare that goes to 4K so she will likely go there until she goes to public school for K. I wish there were more options for families because I feel that there are a lot of kids who fall through the cracks because their family's income isn't low enough to qualify for 4K at the public school or for Head Start, but their families have a hard time affording other preschools.

That's where we were. Sucks to be poor but not poor enough.
On a side note it makes me think of that song "stuck in the middle with you"

Eh, that board pretty much told some poster that if they couldn't pay for their kid's college then they shouldn't have kids. You can't take some of their opinions too seriously. I really wanted to make their heads explode by telling then that even if I could foot my kid's college bill I wouldn't.

Seriously? Ugh. And yes, my parents helped me but I definitely had to work a full time job and do work study to pay for school. My kids will do the same.

I went to preschool.

I have a BA in history.

My husband did not go to preschool.

He has a masters, is working on his 2nd masters, and is going for a PhD.

Formal early childhood education =/= future success.

I didn't post there when I was a SAHM because I reserve my judginess for food-related issues and sometimes other things, not parenting skillz.
