Re: Attention people with kids already...

  • My must haves: diaper genie elite, muslin swaddling wraps, cloth diapers for burp rags, boppy, itzbeen timer, bassinet, swing, the best breast pump you can afford!

  • Rock n play for sure. #1 on favorite list. Any baby shower I go to and they are registered for one I'm buying i

If you plan on walking a decent amount or running. A GOOD jogging stroller. I bought a cheap on on CL and had to invest in a decent one recently. Makes a world of difference!
  • Must haves..Diaper Genie, Boppy Pillow, and if you have a boy, pee pee teepees:).
  • We wouldn't all be alive if it wasn't for our swing. DD slept in it until she was 10 months old. Other must haves for us were; mesh feeders, Gripe Water, glider, and Boppy.

I thought all the millions of teething toys we had were a waste of space and money. Pack n Play, Exersaucer, bouncer, and changing table were all a waste to us. So were all the swaddling blankets, DD liked swaddling the first 2 days and that was it.

  • Wipe warmer is useless.

Boppy pillow. Used for everything. Boppy is good for nursing, tummy time, sitting up practice and good to sit on in the car on the ride home from the hospital!

    Yup what she said! :)
  • My must haves for baby #3.

Rock n play( my neighbor is using it now)
A good ring sling and an ergo
Pampers diapers for nb-2 then Luvs
Gowns and magnetic closure pjs( no snaps in this house!)
    My boobs
    Comfy workout/ lounge clothes

  • DD loved her swing.

Most useless: I agree with PP about the wipe warmer.

  • Most useless: big crib bedding set (we only ever used the sheet), wipe warmer and diaper pail for us. We throw diapers in a covered garbage and take it out often, honestly I hated buying refills. I just didn't like going to the store that often and they were expensive. We stopped using it after #1. Your necessities will be very different from other peoples. For us, all we really needed were a few sleepers, bottles (we went with glass cheapies that still look new after 3 kids, but I wish I had never purchased the large ones too heavy and BF babies only drink 4-5 oz), diapers (we go with Target brand and never had an issue with all 3 kids) and somewhere for baby to sleep (we used a bassinet until the baby moved to the crib). Other than that, you can make it work with whatever you have, although depending on your kid, some things will make it easier, but you won't know that until your baby is born.

Baby #4 due Spring of 2014!

  • A diaper bag that's a backpack is wonderful and will save your back!

My lo didn't wear socks for awhile cause we swaddled him and he would just kick them off.

Baby shoes- totally unnecessary! Especially since we are having spring summer babies! Until baby is walking- or crawling at least, don't bother with them!

A comfy robe for you! I lived in mine the first week cause it's easy to nurse in! And nursing pads! (Disposable and washable)

We didn't have a swing but I will for this one, some babies don't care to swing but others do!

  • I sewed up my own version of the pee pee tepees. Got so tired of being peed on. They worked like a charm:).
  • I ve never been one for diaper bags until this...now that we have the bob dualie and this sucker fits perfectly on the back, I am in love

  • Don't Bother with:
-wipes warmer (if LO lets you get away with it) bc the wipes will dry out
-pack'n'play (my daughter hated them from day one; she feels trapped)
I used just about everything else (even socks & shoes).

    Make Sure to Get:
-a My Breast Friend if you'll BF (better than a boppy and gives your back a little support)
-the gel nipple pads that help when they're sore (worked better for me than anything else, I think they're made by Lansinoh, but it might've been Medela)
-a bassinet that rolls (we used it by my bed for the first three months and if she fell asleep in the living room before we went to bed, we just rolled her into our room without waking her)
-a dishwasher thing to put all the bottle parts and soppy cup parts in (comes in handy with the bottles and when they're using sippy cups)
-a TON of bibs and burp cloths (not cutesy ones--they won't absorb well). With this, I HIGHLY recommend the Tommy Tippee terry bibs that have the padded ring around the neck. They were a lifesaver when my daughter was younger. They kept milk and spit-up from dripping onto her neck.
-swaddle me swaddlers. My daughter loved to Baton Rouge swaddled but hated being swaddled in blankets bc of the restriction. When we would put her in her "cocoons" (swaddle me), she would go right to sleep. She looked like a purple glow worm. Lol.
-if your baby has trouble latching and you need bottles, absolutely try the MAM bottles. They were all my daughter could use.
-automatic pump (if you'll pump). I have the double medela, and it works great.
-a bumbo seat! My daughter LOVED that! She was able to support herself very early and this allowed her to strengthen her muscles and not feel so helpless. It came in handy later on for feedings too.
-travel system (where carrier hooks onto stroller)
-VTech's thing that projects lights on the ceiling while playing music or nature sounds. My daughter loved going to sleep to it and still does at 19 months. This one is cheap and can travel with baby to others' houses to help him/her fall asleep in a new environment.
-moby wrap or something similar (but not the cheap one from Wal-mart!). This saved me on so many days!

Bear in mind that a lot of things you will find useless others loved.  Bottle sanitizer is an utter waste of space.  Buy Medela microwave sanitizing bags...best things ever!  My kid hated the bouncer...we used a handful of times, but you know what maybe this one will like the bouncer so I kept it.

Peepee teepees for boys.  Ha.  That stops nothing.  Also, elaborate baby outfits in the 0-6 age range.  They're kinda blobby at that point so you'll rarely go all out and dress them AND it will be summer soon after which means they'll spend all their time in shorts or just a onesie.

We really debated buying a super expensive baby video monitor, but that thing is gold.  It doesn't matter that you can hear the baby from anywhere in the house.  We can tell if it's something we should go in for or just let him go back to sleep.  Also, we can travel with it.  GOLD!
