Nighttime bottle - how many oz?

LO usually nurses before bed, I'm trying to get him completely weaned. The past couple days, I've given him a bottle instead, 4 oz. He has woken up both nights and I ended up nursing him in the middle of the night. He usually STTN, so I think perhaps 4 oz isn't enough. How big of a bottle is your LO eating before bed? Bottle is WCM.

Re: Nighttime bottle - how many oz?

  • I do 6 or 7, a lot of people do 8.
  • Loading the player...
  • We do 6oz WCM in a sippy right before bed. I plan to start cutting back gradually by 1/2 oz every week starting at 15 months and be done with a sippy at bedtime completly by 18 months.

  • We do 7oz in a bottle before bed. I don't know how we will ever get rid of a bedtime bottle he loves it!
  • 8oz, normally 4oz WCM leftover from dinner and 4oz of formula. I'm not worried about getting rid of his bedtime bottle yet.
  • 8oz of formula here, too.

  • None. Shit, am I doing it wrong?! He usually downs a 4-5 oz cup at dinner, and will sip on a few more ounces before bed while he is playing. Should I be giving him more? Or should I be happy he doesn't need it to sleep?

I agree!  We got rid of DS1s bedtime bottle around 1yo.  It was pretty awesome.  With DS2, I'm not sure we'll ever get rid of it.  Its how he falls asleep and stays asleep.

  • Ok, I lied. DD takes 12oz between 6:00 and her 8:00 bedtime... She will take 6-8oz just before she falls asleep but 'snacks' on formula between dinner and bedtime. It's like crack to her. She screams unless she gets that much after a full dinner. She also JUST hit 19lbs so I'm guessing her metabolism is super fast.

  • Ok, good. DS would never take a bottle for me....which sucked when he was 4 months old and I wanted to leave for more than 2 hours, but rocks now. He also just hit 19 lbs I think @Cheerilee, he eats like a horse, lucky duck must have his dad's metabolism.

  • None here, he has about 4-6 oz with dinner about 2 hours before bed. He's got a sensitive tummy and is on soy milk, he does better not having a full tummy at bedtime. He sleeps about 7:30-7

this. we have a really rough night if he doesn't get one and since he's not  a great sleeper, I don't dare mess with it!
