insane toddler...HELP

My daughter is 20 months old and usually wonderful. This week she'll be fabulous all day for the babysitter and then the minute I we get home she starts her tantrums. She wants to be held the entire time and flips out if I out her down. She doesn't want much to do with my DH so it makes it even harder. Also last night she was fine until dinner. We tried, yes tried to get her into her booster seat and she went NUTS! She ended up not eating any dinner. What gives? She an angel for others and a demon for us in the evening!?!?!?

  • yep, that's our dd.  she's very dif at daycare v. home.  she knows she can get away with it with us, and usually she does thanks to my dh who coddles her.  i wouldn't worry about it.  it's a very common toddler phase.

  • ditto, it's a very common toddler phase for them to push the boundaries with the ones they feel 'safest' with, and behave like angels for everyone else.  My DD will throw a fit if I don't let her make a 'choice' a lot of the time, so I always try to present two options when I can so she feels 'in control'.

  • The sad news.  It gets even more crazy,  My DD flipped out when I turned on her light switch and she didn't get to do it.  Turning it back off didn't work either....oh man!  My only question....is she getting her daily naps???

  • Sometimes a small snack when she gets home from daycare will even out DD's temper.  They do afternoon snack at daycare right after she wakes up, so I don't think she eats much and then is starving by 6.  There are still tantrums, but they aren't as severe when she isn't hungry.  :-)

  • It unfortinately is a stage you have to tough through. We usually try to use humor for everything. Ex: Well of course you silly girl you need to sit in your chair..How else will you reach the table!? (fluctuate voice a lot to sound less authority like) Also my son went through a really really long phase where he practically refused to eat anything but PB&J, mac & cheese, ravioli, spagetti or pizza. That was it. On new meals we would do a "cheers" with our forks on every bite. Could she be more tired too?
