STM's ---- MMR Vaccine?

While vaccines don't "cause" autism, that doesn't mean that there isn't a correlation.  My sister was worried about the same thing after her daughter was diagnosed with autism.  She requested separate shots for her younger son rather than one with additives.  So rather than getting an MMR, my nephew had a measles shot, a mumps shot, and a separate rubella shot.

It might be something you want to look into.
Wow way to spread wrong information. I dont think you really understand what correlation is.

Correlation = Squeeze boob, milk comes out. I did something that made something else happen.

There is no proof/correlation between vaccinations & vaccination "additives" and autism.

  • Both my kiddos got all their shots as their dr deemed they needed them. they both had the combo vac and neither one of them had any side effects, other then the normal sore and cranky over having a shot.

  • vaccines are such a hot-topic for some people.   We did all our vaccines on the "normal" schedule.  My son's never had any reactions what so-ever to any vaccines.

I also don't believe the hype around vaccines causing autism.

  • Not to sound ignorant, but which religion actually forbids vaccination?

I just did some googling and it's pretty vague. Looks like most are Christian scientists. Mostly googling just brought up how to get out of immunizations with a religious excuse.

  • I have an idea. Let's bring segregation back into our country. But not for race or religion or anything other than people who vaccinate and those who don't. Ugh, this topic. I just...can't anymore. I know people that truly believe it's okay not to vaccinate and it's harmful to do so. I just, want, to, SCREAM.

I am sorry if I made the OP believe that a correlation was possible. I was more trying to point out that if she was apprehensive about vaccinations then there are alternatives while still making sure that your child is vaccinated/protected.

Also, you must not know what a correlation is. Correlation does not imply causation.
Correlation = people who are taller are smarter.

DD got her MMR vaccine when suggested, I spaced a few (but she was never actually behind) and delayed influenza until after 12 mos, but she will get vaccinated at her next visit. I just space because I do think we overwhelm the neuro and immune system at too young of an age, that I mean, I don't see any reason to get 6 shots in one day, you could do 3 and 3 within a month. These schedules are developed largely for convenience and adherence.  Vaccinating is important, especially for those who have legitimate reasons like allergies that do not allow them to vaccinate.

Yes you can the pertussis shot while PG, they started this a few years ago. I didn't get it, it was a new suggestion and I wasn't sure, but I had it before I left the hospital. It does wear of, by probably age 20 or so. So people do need to get revaccinated. Most of my close family did when DD was born.

This is the only "established" religion that is outwardly anti-vac to my knowledge. I knew a girl who was raised Christian Scientist in college, and they don't really believe in any sort of standardized medicine at all. Illnesses are all an illusion and instead of a doctor people come to your home and pray over you for healing. She was not vaccinated and was terrified of getting sick :(.

I had a random trucker guy in a hotel lobby (in the middle of nowhere New Mexico) proudly tell me that he was a Christian Scientist and had never been to a doctor and would rather die than go.

I'm pretty sure all I said that prompted that statement was that it was a chilly morning...

  • They had a little thing on my local news the other day about how they want to start recommending pregnant women get the pertussis shot during 3rd tri so they are covered because the newborns can't have it until 2 mo.
I had this when i was pg with DS and my dr said I will get it again this PG. She also recommended that DH get a booster and anyone that maybe staying at our home for a week or more.

  • DS had all vaccines on the soctor's recommended schedule. The link between vaccines and autism has not been proven, and i feel that making sure he has protection from diseases is very important, especially since he is a daycare baby

I think all the crap they allow to go into our foods is linked to autism.
I think that's much more likely than vaccines!

How did he get separate shots? I'm genuinely curious. Our pediatrician told us that measles, mumps, and rubella vaccinations are no longer available separately in the US. It's MMR or nothing.

  • Just a question - don't you *have* to be up to date on MMR if you're going to be in school? How are so many kids not being vaccinated? I get there are some legitimate exceptions, but does "I am against vaccines" count?

I remember even for grad school the university made a huge to-do about getting my files from when I was vaccinated (which I found kind of funny only in that I'd been working at said university for 8 years and they didn't seem to care whether or not I had them as an employee, but suddenly it mattered when I enrolled in a class.) Not only that but they practically forced me to get a Hep-C vaccination even though there is virtually zero chance of my contracting it at this point.
Same here; when I went to college I had to prove I'd been vaccinated.  Well, I couldn't find my records, got a blood test to prove I was immune to everything... and I wasn't immune to the mumps.  Apparently that vaccination had worn off and so I got an MMR shot.  I believe universities are paranoid about everyone being up to date on shots because of so many international students who maybe weren't vaccinated, etc., and so many people being together in one place.

Anyway, I'm totally pro-vax.  I see no reason why a child (or anyone) should be subjected to a potentially fatal disease if it's easily preventable.  Hello, that's why they were invented.

  • I am a former "homeschooled" person as well as "religious", :) (with a college masters degree), however, my DD(23 months) is up to date on her vaccines. We absolutely trust her pediatrician. I did struggle a little just with all the naysayers you hear that throw around the word autism, and say things like my relative developed (fill in the blank) after getting vaccines. I would rather trust my child's Ped., which has 30 plus years of experience and multiple years of training, than some random person on the internet, with supposed studies...
Also, I recently recovered from whooping cough...yikes! It was horrible. I am no end of thankful that my DD was protected with her 4 doses of vaccines against it. It can be deadly to small children.
    Just my two cents.
  • Oh, and DD has had no symptoms following any if her immunizations. :)
