Neocate Prescription Formula - anyone?

Does anyone else have any experience with Neocate?  DD was on Nutramigen but was still having stomach issues so the GI doctor prescribed Neocate which is only available with a prescription.  DD doesn't seem to care for it yet, after 3 days.

If you have experience with Neocate, did your LO eventually increase feedings?  Also, do you know if it will keep her fuller longer?  I'm wondering because DD is eating fewer ounces and eating less frequently.  I called the doctor but I may not hear back until tomorrow.

I have been using samples from the doctor since Saturday and I'm nervous to go buy it at the pharmacy...I can only imagine what this will cost.  Fingers crossed insurance will cover it.

TIA!!!

  • No advice but I just wanted to wish you good luck. I hope your LO takes to the new formula soon and that it helps her feel better! My heart truly goes out to you and everyone else whose LOs have tummy troubles and need such specialized formula.

  • @jayro10 - Thank you for your kind words!!   :D  It's been tough at times but it could always be worse.  Other than a sensitive belly, she's a happy and healthy baby.

  • I heard that the temp can really affect if your baby will eat Neocate or not. So try messing with the temp and see if that helps at all. And if that doesn't work, there the Similac version of the same stuff so there are a couple options to see if she likes it or not. My LO has had stomach issues as well so I did some research of all the options.
  • Elecare is another option
  • @DanniRae04 - Thanks for the advice!!

  • My daughter is on Similiac Alimentum which to my understanding is very similiar to Neocate (just able to purchase OTC). She will only take the pre-mixed liquid and only wants it cold. I keep the powder on stand by in case we go out for the day and mix it with ice cold water, but even then she's not to keen on it. But the pre-mixed liquid cold is what she likes.
  • @hbrockman01 - thanks for your feedback!  We've already tried Alimentum and Nutramigen, which didn't work.  Neocate is the only elemental (amino acid-based) formula that doesn't contain soy oil.

She usually only took a bottle if it was room temp.  I'll try changing that to see if I can get her to eat more.  I don't think Neocate has a pre-mixed version, otherwise I'd try that.  I've heard the pre-mixed formulas usually taste better than the powder.

    Thanks again for your advice.
